For those of you who work at home, do you find it hard keeping your house clean?

I have been working at home as a medical transcriptionist since 1998. I have to admit that before I started working I was a much better housekeeper. I didn't have any job to go to and my son stayed here with me so I had more time to clean house. But since I started working it has been much harder to keep our house clean because I'm constantly on the computer. Amanda and Stuart (my daughter and son) are wonderful at helping me out but still things just get cluttered and it is hard to keep up with it. The paperwork around my desk is terrible, but it is stuff that I need to keep up with and if anyone moves it I go nuts!! LOL. How about you, if you work at home do you find it harder to keep up your house? Thanks!

I don't know if it's so much working as having children. But now that the kids are getting big enough to help out, we do have them do things. My problem is that I have a bad back so most of the burden falls on my husband (who won't allow me to get somebody in to clean because he thinks we will get ripped off).

My husband doesn't want me to get anyone else in either Dawn because he thinks we have too many sensitive papers laying around. I would love to have someone in to clean for me once a month but since he doesn't like the idea we just have to do the best we can. Amanda and Stuart help tremendously but it just takes more time than we would like.

I don't work and its hard for me to keep the house clean. Of course I have to admit that housekeeping has never been a favorite thing for me. My husband's office is in the living room now and if I move anything he gets a little upset with me, lol.

Hi Lucy! It has never been my favorite thing to do either but after a while it starts getting on my nerves and I have to do something. I'm glad I have Amanda and Stuart to help me out but if she and Mark get married it will just be Stuart and when he is in school I'll really have a time. My husband helps, of course, but after he works all day he doesn't feel like doing much when he gets home. So I try to not expect a lot out of him. Talk to you soon hon!!

Yes. I work at home seven days per week and it is very hard to keep the dust down in here. I can keep it straight but keeping it clean is something else. I just got done cleaning a little bit in here so I can try to keep up with it and make the house smell better also. It takes up alot of my time when I could be working, but I manage it somehow.

Hi Steph! I wish I could be like you. I try but I just can't seem to find enough time in the day. Since Amanda and Mark have been dating we have managed to keep the front of the house looking better because I want things to look nice whenever we have company, but the other rooms we have to close off. When we are getting ready to have company for Amanda or Stuart's birthday we nearly kill ourselves trying to get the house just like we want it LOL!! All four of us pitch in together and work like crazy getting everything ready!! Thanks hon and have a great day!!

Yes, I'm also running a homebase business, I have a computer shop, we are offering typing & printing services and other computer related services. I have an assistant staff which is also my niece and I let her enroll on night shift. I have 4 kids my eldest is a high school student and my youngest boy is 3yrs old. Running the business and the home is really tiring yet rewarding. I used to work in a japanese corp for more than 15 yrs and life is different, I am also tired, no time to clean the house and no time for the kids. Now, I also have to get all things done, tiring yet I enjoy working with my family around. I scheduled and divided different tasks which includes cleaning & dishwasing among my niece and daughter and hired extra help for the laundry.

I wish I were like that. It is just hard to get it done when I have so much typing to do. But I just do the best I can.

How lucky you are. You have my dream job. I would love to work at home, on my computer, in the medical field. I wouldn't care about my house...not that I do now...well not excessively anyway. There's only me here. I try to stay on top of things but there is always something that needs attention and so there's an avalanche effect. Something gives eventually and so I simply apply a "band aid" measure.

I work from home and I have to keep my home clean because my home is my showroom for tupperware products especially my kitchen as I am a tupperware star consultant. By keeping the tupps all in order and things neatly placed, it has earned me extra income and increase of sales. It's not much of a hard work and I am not meticulous. Whatever that is taken out just put back the same place that's all. The same goes with my husband - he's not into tupps but he also is one who likes things in place. So it's not a hard in keeping our apartment clean.

As yourself this: If you were working at an office would you have all that junk on your desk in the same way? You need to organise your time and your stuff a little bit more if you want to be able to keep up. Spend a little time in organising your paperwork. Not only will that save time in the long run because you'll actually be able to find something it will also boost your spirits. Maybe you should re-evaluate why you sit at the computer all day long and why you don't schedule your time for computer, kids, cleaning, groceries etc. I realise that once you get going on the computer you can lose track of time. That's why I do my chores before I do my computer. For example I'll have washed my windows before I even look at my email. Also I'll make sure that I take a break. I'll have lunch. Then I may put some clothes in the washer or dryer before I go back to my computer. It's really just about organising your time. You cannot expect to still be the perfect housekeeper if you spent your whole day doing that and then went to spending the whole day at your computer.
