Poor little baby Robin's.....

I was in my backyard playing with my Boxer and after I threw her the ball, I noticed a bird's nest on the ground...It was turned up-side-down but it looked all intact...
My grass was long and I didn't see it at first, but there was a blue egg lying a little ways away from the nest...As I picked it up, I saw another and while picking that one up and placing it in the nest with the first egg, I saw another...I found 5 baby Robin's eggs on the ground....None of them were broken....They were cold to the touch and I assumed they had been on the ground all night...I couldn't replace it in the tree and figured the tiny eggs were already doomed with being in the cold and all....
I still have the nest and the eggs...My neighbor said if I don't break them they should stay like that....
Has anyone ever found a nest with eggs? What did you do with it?

well I was young so I put it back in the tree . But if it was like that theres no way a momma bird would come back to it and you touched the eggs bare handed/ she wont touch themeven if they had been warm. That why I wont let grand daughter touch the baby bird that is hopping aaround in out yard they wopuld be refused by the momma

I have been lucky enough to never have that happen before. I would be so upset because it really does sound like they were doomed. I wouldn't suggest keeping the eggs at all though. Eggs are eggs and they will go bad. As for the nest if you decide to keep it in the house hit it with some lice bedding spray . Birds can carry lice and that would suck to get infested from a nest.

Yes, I am sure she would not find them...I thought 5 eggs was alot, but then I don't know how many they can lay...

You could try putting a heat lamp on the eggs about 1-2 ft. away. But then you would be faced with feeding baby birds!! I would do a websearch for a wildlife rehabilitator in your area and call them to see what they suggest. Good luck!
And btw, one of my daughters rescued an abandoned turtle nest /eggs years ago. Several of the eggs hatched to our surprise!

I did do some research and it says to let Mother Nature do her thing....Around here, though, cats would have eaten the eggs so they didn't have a chance...
That is neat that the turtle eggs did hatch...Unlike birds, turtles don't have to sit on the eggs...so they were lucky..
Thank you for sharing..

I have found a nest with eggs but I just left it alone. The babies may still hatch at some time. I do not bother them because I heard the parents may not come back to them or they may not hatch if bothered. We have a bird house thet the blue birds like to lay their eggs in. They stay protected from other birds. No other birds can get in there. We never bother it because the bluebirds may abandon the babies.

I have heard that also..If you touch the eggs then the mother will reject them...

I understand not wanting to hurt them...but they would have just rotted in the grass anyway...Thank you.

I've never found a nest with eggs, but I've got a baby bird that fell from his nest that I'm nursing.
I've got two discussions here about him:

And now I'm updating about his progress with more pictures on my blog, which is listed on my profile.
