Why hasn't the nose to the grindstone mentality worn out yet?

The old timers will tell you that our world is going to Heck in a handbasket because of the lack of motivation that they see in my generation and in the one following. However if they objectively look at the causes behind the generalized unwillingsness of young people to buckle down and make something of themselves they will see that they are the ones who have removed the incentive for most young people to want to do anything but go out and misspend their own youths as young people have been wont to do since the first parent child relationships were formed on earth. When you're young and vital and ready to take on the world the old timers are busy trying to feed us their dreams for us and their goals and expectations that they have for their children, whether or not the child shares their dreams. And even when the child doesn't concurr with their parents view of the world, that rarely stops anyone from pressuring their kids to grow up, get out there, and make us proud. When they know that at our age they were in the same mindset. except that the average retirement age for the average Joe was between 53 and 55 after which people feel that they have earned the right to go and enjoy whatever of their lives remain to them. Number one wouldn't you rather have had your fun when your were younger and not bent by aches nd pains, and old injuries that more often than not were cuased by whatever type of work that they did. Quality of life for old timers is not an incentive to follow in their footsteps. Nor is the fact that while they are retiring on full Social Security and pension plans, and retirement accounts our generations have been swiped and robbed by the government raising the retirement age from 52 to 55 then to 60 then 63 then 67 and now they have it all the way out to 72 years old before a person can expect to retire and recieve full benefits of the system. At 72 years old how much club hopping and fun do you think we're going to be ready to have. They have quadrupled the size of the grindstone while our figurative noses have shrunk. there is no real incentive to strap ourselves to the workaday wheel from High School graduation day to the expected life expectancy of 74 and 1/2 years if we aren't ever allowed to unplug from the unjust system until age 72. They have robbed us of our golden years, right in our face before we ever get to them and they remind you every time you get a paycheck and they've gotten their money out of it before you ever got it. It really is unfair. That is why teens and young people are so uncaring and unruly.

I agree with you. Its kind of hard to want to work the more they keep raising the retirement age. There has got to be some major fraud going on when that keeps happening. I think enjoying life is more important than working hard any day. To all those people I say take your money. I'll take what little I enjoy. I don't need to have alot to enjoy life.

Why would you think that the older generation stop the younger one. I would more would say that the younger generation should have seen the mistakes that were being made in their times and avoid doing it. Every parents has dreams and expectations for their children. I have made mistakes in my life and I would never blame my parents. I always say that I do not want to live my the life that my parents did and trying to avoid doing it, I made a lot of mistakes that makes me now living that life. You see a person mistake should be an incentive for the next not to do it. I prefer the older folks time, our modern times has nothing in it to give me enjoyment.
Those who are collecting pensioner deserve to collect it because they work and contribute to the upliftment of their country. So why are you anger towards that. Remember you will be at that age one day.
While growing up in the earlier days there were respect, moral value, and self esteem in today's life all of these are missing. Clubbing that you are talking about is not about life. So I would advice you to go and research and see the living of these persons that your licking against and then decide which life was more enjoying, fulfilling and ambitious. In those times parents plans for their children. They know that family comes first after the heavenly father.
I wish you all the best on your research.

Exactly correct, but it depends from person to person. A strong willed human will never bend before other's dreams. He will make sure that He follows his own dreams and come out with flying colors. They tried to impose their dreams on me. But I stuck to my grounds and explained to my people about why I was doing that and they seemed to understand. A myth with the young generation is that no body understands them. The thing is they do not give them a chance to the old. Although, the other thing is , the old take a chance and try to impose their aspirations on them. " Son, I want you to become this, I want you to become that". Any sane person would lose his temper when someone tries to do this. I would like to say a small line for a movie, which I think many would not have seen, The Astronaut Farmer. The line goes like, Farmer and a boy are sitting outside a counseling person's office and Farmer asks the boy what he wants to be. the boy says he doesn't know. Then Farmer says " you better know what you want to be, before they do it for you" . Well, that shows how most people are always trying to tell you what to do and what not to do.
