Why do people honk their horns for a LOOOOONNNNGGGGG time?

The office I work in is located on a fairly busy street and I can hear the traffic in the background most of the time. I notice a lot of times that when people honk their horns, they don't just toot it really quickly or a couple times, but just lay on it for about a minute or so. And they don't slow down when they're doing this - I can hear it approaching and then fading away. Do they do this because they think they are aggrivating the person that they are honking at? I mean, really, a couple toots should be enough to get someones attention. Anything more than that is just rediculous.

I bet some of your days seem real long because of the noise pollution. I have no idea why someone would lay on their horns for an extended period of time. That would be awful.

I can mostly tune it out, but sometimes it's really loud. We're also close to the airport so I can hear the planes during the day. I just keep the radio on and listen to that.

I do think they would imagine it is getting on the other person's last nerve to honk that way. To me it seems like that is their way of hollering at the other driver. I guess if all they do is honk it is better than road rage. I agree with you that one or two little honks is all it should take.

I agree that road rage is pretty bad. Although I know sometimes I get upset with other drivers I try to stay calm and not aggrivate them any more - it might cause an accident...
