Plastic bags are now not free anymore in China. In every supermarket, people will not get the plastic bag unless they pay for it.So the number of people who use plastic bags now is reducing rapidly! This is a really good thing!I like to see this. How about your country?Do you use plastic bags now? If me,i 'd like to take a cloth bag or my school bag when i go shopping. Keep our enviorment clean, make the world more beautiful!!!^^

That sounds like a terrific way to help the environment in several ways. It reduces the amount of trash thrown out, ease the burden of the recycling plants (also using less energy), not as much trash on the streets or stuck in trees (I always see a bag or two floating around somewhere outside), and nowhere near as many of these bags being produced. We do not have that where I live, but I do not know if it is country-wise. I have been using canvas bags and insulated bags (for frozen or cold items) for a couple of decades now. Occasionally, I will get the plastic bags because I reuse them in several different ways, but if I already have enough, I will use my canvas and insulated bags. I made my canvas bags as well. I've seen several on the market and they always seemed so overpriced for what they are and looked so simple to make. So, I tried it, and it really was easy. I wish every country would do away with plastic bags, or at least sell them alongside the canvas and insulated ones. Maybe they could sell canvas and insulated bags at a reasonable cost... buy them once and reuse them for a long, long time. If more of us were forced to buy all bags, I bet we would see more people turning to the sturdier, reusable ones.

I'm sorry, I meant to say "country-WIDE" not "country-WISE". I hate it when I see a major typo after I've posted!

That's ok.And what you said is reasonable. There are also canvas bags inour supermarkets now.But the price, seems a little high.I saw many people buying them. If we can,i hope our smart scientists can create a new material that would not pollute our environment.

Some kind of biodegradeable bag would be ideal.

That is a great idea! At one of the grocery stores i shop at you have to buy your plastic bags and i usually buy enough to put my meat and frozen foods in. I saw the little bags at walmart the other day and told my daughter that i was going to but some of them, the only problem is that they are small and when you are shopping for 5 people for 2weeks worth of meals it takes a lot of bags. I would probably need 25 at least. Even so i think it is a good idea.

You can recycle old jeans and other sturdy fabrics into bags, and not even have to buy them from the store.

I had been to Udakamandalam (popularly known as OOty, a hill station some 300 kms from Bangalore city. I was really surprised to see that the city is well done up as far as garbage is concerend and there are enough placads and notices on the walls and on bill boards, asking people not to use the plastic bags. It is generally seen here in the shops that people do use the paper bags or cloth bags. This example is worthy of emulation elsewhere in the country, where the plastic bags are so frequently used for almost all purpose of carrying things. I fully endorse your views on use of plastic bags. It is not too late for people to give up using these bags. Recycling them is a big problem besides, these bags are consumed as food by animals and it creates a problem.

The US is trying to do something about plastic bags I believe. I don't like to think about using so many and my partner has started me thinking about reusable bags. She's found many online that are nice and I wouldn't mind trying them out.

It's also a good way to recycle them.Make the existed plastic bags more useful, and never produce them again!

This is becoming more and more popular in Canada. I keep a number of reusable cloth bags in the back of my van for grocery shopping. I started seeing the benefits to this when I was in Holland visiting my Oma and she always brought her own bags when we went shopping.

There are stores here that charge you for plastic bags and even paper ones. We use the boxes in the store, or bring our own bags. It is helpful.

I take a hessian reusable bag with me when I shop and I refuse to pay for plastic bags, they should make them biodegradable. It is just another way for the supermarkets to make money not for them helping to save the enironment. Ellie :D

i am concern with our environment because many people destroy our mother nature. i am a mountaineers and we help to save mother nature so that our children still can see the beauty of it. plastic bags destroy our environment specially if it is burn, the smoke will go to the upper part of our planet and destroy the ozone layer. i am expecting our country will do a move to eliminate using plastic bags instead we used paper bags.

I love the idea "keeping the environment clean and I totally agree with that!" But of course saying "good-bye to plastic bag" is really shocking and surprising for me!!! My friend and I went to a supermarket and bought a lot of groceries. When we were about to pay for our groceries the cashier said that we have to pay 20 cents for every plastic bag. We were surprised and don't understand what she was trying to explain because she speaks Chinese and our Chinese is so limited hu hu hu! My friend was so agitated and explaining to her in English that the first plastic bag should be free! Poor cashier she just smiled and saying she did not understand what we were trying to tell her --- communication barrier! In our country the first "plastic bag" is free then if you want extra you need to pay for that! Now we were able to accept that plastic bags are not free anymore --- for environmental sake and guess what we are using now? You wanna know liuqian? I will tell you to my next response lol! Have a nice day!

99% of bags are still plastic and it won't change fast I think. If you want any other bag you must pay for it much more than for plastic ones. Good non-plastic bags can be even 10x more expensive than normal plastic bag. Cheers and happy myloting.
