Peru

I live in peru, and i reciently went to te movies to wacht this awfull film, and for my surprise i saw how the producers, made unforgivables mistakes about my country. I cant understand that whith all the money that they have cant make a little research about the things that are going to show to all the world. I imagine that right now all te foreign people that saw the movie think that in peru are huge waterfalls, and that we use mexicans hats, or that pancho villa speak quechua, and the incas were aliens, this things afects not only peru but also mexico, and other latinamericans countrys .. all of this things are wrong and absurd. It seems like the producers dont pay atention in history class or maybe just dont care about destroy something so sacrade as the ancient history of a country so diverse and interesting as peru. So that you think? did you see the movie?

Oh and I did some looking around about the movie. I don't think they are saying that the incas were aliens. I think they are trying to say that some "inter-dimensional beings" (I guess you could call them aliens) came at one point in history and perhaps made the skull and influenced their culture at one point. I have to add that scientists have also found strange "spaceship" shapes in some Egyptian heiroglyphs and wonder if Egyptians had alien contact at some point, which would give some explanation to how they figured out the mathematical formula to make pyramids. Maybe the Egyptians should be upset with scientists and archeologists, too?

I feel that way about a lot of films that butcher basic biological facts. My sister who studied quite a bit of Spanish history in school feels that way about the Fountain. Also Disney continually makes me mad cause they butcher fairy tales. Almost none of the fairy tales they have animated tell the story as it was originally written. Then there is Disney's Hercules did they even research the myth? That was part of a past religion and they messed it all up. There is almost nothing in that film that is at all true. So you see all movie makers don't care about the history, people or myths that they trample on as long as the movie sells. And the very sad thing is that in the case of most Americans the movie that is wrong is all that they will ever know about the topic. Cause heaven forbid they learn something.

Yeah, also look at Disney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame. The real story did NOT end that happily-ever-after at all.

I did not watch the movie because I did not think that it would be worth watching. If it is, in fact, murdering ancient history as you say that it is, then I am glad that I did not watch it.

I'm sorry that the movie industry has caused you to be up set over the movie. It is the way of the movies industry to sensationalize the movies to supposedly keep them more interesting. The industry has deviated so much from what is real and what is fiction that it isn't funny. They are interested only in the bottom line and that is money. I think that most Americans know that what is seen in the movies is purly fiction and for entertainment. The shame is that other countries will believe the garbage that Hollywood spews out. They like to write history over.

Things like that happen. What should I say, my country's usually portrayed as a poor country where all the people are thieves and robbers.. And what about the islamic countries where each kid is supposed to be carrying an AK 47.. Thats the reason I believe in movies only till where I have to believe them. Sometimes, I have to agree that movies portray a very bad image of other countries. bourne

well first of all i would like to say im sorry that this movie offended you. But one thing you have to realize is that this is only a movie. its not MEANT to be taken literally. if you were to take all the Indiana Jones movies literally then the Nazi's looked for and found the lost Ark of the Covenant reported in the bible, and they also looked for and found the supposed chalice that Christ drank out of. but none of those things happened in real life. its just a movie, not historical fact. the Russian government were also upset about this one because they were offended by the fact that they were portrayed as having spies running all over the world looking for crystal skulls. honestly anyone that has the obvious tendency to foolishly take things at face value should not be watching movies. its called fiction for a reason, because its NOT REAL and it shouldn't be taken as such.

well, it would be nice that all the people think about you, that is only fictional... but a feww days ago in peru tv, it was a case about the turists now in machu pichu and other citys and their opinions, and a los of them said that the idea of coming to peru came out after seen this movie, but if they obviusly donde expected that the things were the same, the do expect that all the views and landscapes were similar, and obviously they werent...

I am sorry to hear that the latest Indiana Jones movie have upset you and your country. I have actually seen it for my personal enjoyment and in the end I always think that this is only a movie and fictional. It does not mean that personal enjoyment would further hurt you and your country. I respect you and your country as well as your culture and I am in no way of upsetting both of you. I only watched the movie because I like Indiana Jones. This new movie was not as good as previous ones.

Sorry that you feel that way. However i think when people view this movie they know it's completely far fetched. Something like that could never happen. It's more like a fantasy world. So I don't think people who watch the movie would be stupid enough to assume that you all use Mexican hats or that the Incas were aliens.

i understand where you're coming from and i'm sorry you feel that way about the movie. i've seen the movie and i wouldn't have thought that the falls were not in peru.. but i do hope this will not keep you from watching movies again,.there is a terminology for watching movies, it's "suspension of disbelief"..i guess that would apply more if you are not personally affected by what you see in the movie. but, just the same, this term is what moviegoers should do until the end of the film. like what the guys above me have posted, it's just a movie. it's like telling your kid that there's no superman or santa claus. we let the kids believe in them and watch their eyes sparkle.

Hi gamanuga, welcome to mylot and have a happy stay here. I don't see the movie yet, but I need to agree with you. All the time Hollywood producers maka mistakes with things that are important ones. It make me start to think that all of them are analphabetes. They don't do any research for anything. Many times I see movies that show brazilian people speaking spanish lol. We NEVER speaked spanish since our language EVER was portuguese and we never had names like Juanita or Carmensita, it is a joke. And the huge waterfalls that the movie show is a brazilian waterfalls called "Seven Falls of Iguaçu" or "Cataracts of Iguaçu" placed in a town called Foz do Iguaçu. Many people around the world think that in Brazil we have Carnaval all the year thanks to Hollywood. So don't worry this much about this movie because you aren't alone in this problem lol. But I agree that it is a irritant thing. cheers my friend.

Sorry that the movie upset you. I haven't personally seen it yet, but I will tell you that Hollywood is notorious for ignoring history in movies. It's not just Peruvian history that has suffered this fate. I could get upset about the movie Waterboy, which used just about every Louisiana stereotype they could think of. This was kind of annoying to me, being a Louisiana native, because then it made it worse when I traveled and people asked me if we all used pirots (canoe-like boats) to get everywhere and if we lived in a swamp. I could have gotten upset about that, but it's just a movie. Everyone knows that Hollywood takes artistic license with practically every movie - even ones that claim to be historically accurate.

I haven't seen the movie but I know the situation so I thought I will write something about it. Most of the movies about world war II when refering to my country (Poland) makes HUGE mistakes that many times offened me as a patriot. Polish soldiers was dieing in every fronts of Europe for their country. They did wonderful things like conquer Monte Casino, defending Britain in the air, and they solved the Enigma code. In one movie about U-bots (I don't remember the name of it) they aren't saying anything about true. They are saying that British scientists done it or something like that. This isn't fair. Same for the one thing that was some time ago. Someone wrote in a newspaper I think "Polish doom camps", he was reffering that not Germans where killing Jews and Poles in the WWII in such camps like Auschwitz, but it was Polish camps and that my country was killing there Jews and Germans! So I may say that I fully know what you feel about this situation, maybe even I know more about it. I fully understand your anger, but you can do nothing about it. You can just let people know that this is a bull****. Moviemakers and sensationchasers don't care what kind of lie will they say until they have cash from it. This is my opinion.

I just got back from seeing this literally an hour ago, and i would have to agree. I loved the movie, but sometimes producers go a bit too far into their little fantasy land. A lot of American movies about American history are that way as well, unfortunately. The few movies that are historically accurate are the ones nobody suspects be historically accurate, such as the musical 1776. But everyone believes that The Patriot was entirely true, and although it was based on a real person, it strays a bit too wildly into the Hollywood hills. I think that the best movies and made/written by people that aren't so famous that they believe they can get away from any of this. Spielberg and Lucas, while talented as they are, have let power corrupt them into making them seem invincible to themselves. I know that the Russians are very angry about this movie as well for the same basic reasons.
