I find that whenever I lay down for a while, I get sleepy. So, I stay sitting up as much as possible. I usually can read, draw, paint, etc, without getting sleepy as long as I don't do it laying down. Part of the reason why I am on the computer as much as I can is to keep myself awake.
So, that's my advice, don't read laying down, but sitting up at a desk or table instead.

I suggest taking a break after every hour of reading, that way you should stay awake and fresh in mind. You might go to make a drink and then have this, go for a ten minute walk outside your home or you might listen to some music and do a bit of dancing. You might choose to read in the early morning if you feel most awake at this time of the day. When I was at university studying English literature and preparing to become a teacher I got bored with some of the texts I had to read. I had no trouble staying awake when reading books that I liked however wrote notes to keep my focus when I read books that I didn't find interesting. I read a boring book then rewarded myself with a walk along the pier. I found the science topic boring so I wrote key points on card and stuck these on my wall. This really got the information I needed for my exam into my head. Good luck with your reading.

When studying, you don't have to be a martyr and dive into the books without resting. You need rest dude, and I suggest you to watch television, surf the internet, or even have a conversation with your brothers and sisters to fuel up your drive again. Eat while studying, and keep the music tuned too. It'll help you to keep your spirits up. I have a habit of texting through my mobile phone while studying. It keeps me alive and doesn't bore the hell out of me even if I don't have music or food with me.

I also have a difficult time reading without getting sleepy after awhile. The best way for me to keep from falling asleep when I read is to just take a break from my reading whenever I realize that I am starting to feel sleepy. I take a break and find something else to do for awhile, and then after a bit, I go back to my reading and I feel much more awake. That's really the only thing that seems to work for me.

Take a cup of coffee or tea before you start reading. This will help you. this is what I did when I was in college

(sigh) we have the same dilemma. Although, what worked for me would be to stop every 15 minutes or so and just walk around. If I feel thirsty, I drink cold water and get back to it. Also, I really tend to read more while lying down. I got sleepy a lot. Try to stay as upright as possible and as relaxed as possible.

Before starting reading/studying do you sleep first. Sometimes the body tends to be tired and we force it to do things that it does not want to do. I would suggest that you rest awhile before you start to study. If this problems continue then talk with your doctor/pharmacist he/she will give you some vitamins that will help you.
