For those of us who knew of the problem I had with a co tenant please note that I have relocated to a spacious half side of a house. It has two bedrooms, living and dining, kitchen with another dining area, a lovely bathroom and an enclosed wash room. The cost is $24,000 Jamaican Dollars per month - a bit steep but alright for the comfort and peace and quiet I now enjoy. Last week I got my first electricity bill and it was $721. Where I lived previously I would be paying from $1500 t0 $2500 and I find this to be weird because I have more appliances now than before. I know I was being cheated but I guess that is how it goes when you share with others who hate to admit that they consume so much electricity. You know what this is just great and I am free and happy. No disturbances when I want to sleep or study and no indecent languages in my ears or my child's ears. She is most happy and although she has her own room still insists on sleeping with me. She is scared I guess but believe me the house is really wonderful!

Hie Sharon, thank you for adding me to the list. That's really a wonderful news and happy for you. I understand how it feels like to have your own place even it's rented. I used to stay with other tenants and we just had different level of understanding of how living together should be. The utility bills has always been an issue, no one would ever admit that they have been overusing.Another was the self made house rules that actually only applied to that person who have made them but imposed on others. That was years ago anyway, now I am staying by myself and I have the freedom to do whatever I want even if I mess up , it would be my mess..lol Best wishes to you and happy posting! Cheers,

Thats so true. I even remembered one instant where her son made a mess in the bathroom and she wanted to blame it on my daughter. She said that I was treating my child like a princess. So I asked her so what? She is indeed my princess and i refuse to let anyone treat any less. Some rules are for others and not themselves indeed. Thanks for the words of encouragement.

Boy, your dollar must be worth less in Canadian dollars because it sounds like you are paying so much. I live in an executive suite and it is completely furnished, right down to the bedding and it is two bedrooms and all the other rooms like kitchen and livingroon and office and bathroom, so on. My daughter and I live here together and we pay $1500 a month which is quite high. I don't pay any utilities as they are included in our rent. If you are paying such a high rent, than you must be making a high wage.

Well you are correct. A rough estiamtion would put your Canadian dollar to 74 to one Jmaicain Dollar. The rent is indeed high but I can manage with God's help. My salary after tax deduction is J$38,000 and not really bad. I would not say that I am earning alot but it pays the bills. I amy not be able to live in high style but I am content.

That is great to hear. I am glad to see that you are happy now. I hate to see my next electric bill. It has been very hot and humid lately and my air conditioning has been running nonstop to keep it cooled off in the house. I am glad that you have a nicer place and can live in peace now also.

Hi Steph. Heat is not something that can be easily dealt with. HEre in Jamaica whenever I am hot I open my top windows away from the road and leave them open when I sleep too. I also use fans during the nights because it can be very hot inspite of the open windows. Dont worry too much about the bill just conserve in whatever other areas you can and it will balance off. God bless.

Hello Sharon38, I might be late to respond to a two months old discussion but I do want to congratulate you on your new comfortable house. I didn't really get what you meant - being cheated by someone and I believe I have not yet come across the discussion or I might missed it. However, I am glad that you are happy now and hope everything goes well with you and your kid. Happy days!

Congratulations on your new home and the lower utility bill! It sure does sound like you were being cheated before but at least now you have some control and will know what to expect every month. Don't worry about your daughter not sleeping in her bedroom, eventually she will. She just needs time to adjust.

Thanks! I think she slept in her room twice. Once when she decided to try it out but somewhere in the night I found her curled up beside me. the next time she decided that she wa a big enough girl and slept through the whole night but as you may realise by the next night she was back in my bed. I know tht she will eventually go to her own space.
