Have you ever taken part in a clinical trial?

There is always some sort of clinical trial being held in the bigger hospitals in Boston and I always see ads on craigslist looking for people of certain ages who experience different problems to be used to test new medications. Personally I wouldn't want to be someones human guinea pig but then I think that I would rather see that than have some poor animals go through it. Have you ever been part of a clinical trial for any reason? If so what was your experience? If not what are your reasons?

I am participating in one now. It is for weight loss and uses a herbal supplement. It has already been tested in two other studies in various mg.'s of the herb. Before that it was tested on mice. I feel more comfortable going in to this study since it is not the very first trial. I think they do everything they can to safeguard against bad reactions for you. My experience has been good so far. I've received various tests (ekg, echo) as well as routine blood pressure checks, evaluations, etc. I'm excited about it and hope to be losing some weight here soon. My luck, I'll get the placebo! I've just finished my screening so hopefully I'm still in the study. I'll find out tomorrow!

No I have never taken part in a clinical trial, I think I would be afraid to anyway. Though thank God I don't have any medical problems. I don't really even ever want to take any medication on the market if I don't have to, there are to many side effects.

No, ctry, I have never been a part of a clinical trial, but I almost was. I signed up on one of those rx sites a few years ago and they still send me invitations to take part in clinical trials all the time. My greatest obstacle was the lack of transportation. I figure that since some of the medications they study might be something I'm already taking, why not get paid for it.
