I have suffered with anxiety for many years. There have been many times when I will catch myself feeling anxious for no apparent reason. At these times, self-talk has really helped a lot. I had to quit work in 2000 because of anxiety. I was working as a live-in nurse and was having an anxiety attack when my patient got out of bed to ask me if I was alright. I realized then that I was no longer being very effective. Please share with me some of the things that have worked for you. http://www.everydayhealth.com/PublicSite/Healthology/VideoTranscript.aspx?category=mentalhealth&cvalue=2711&xid=nl_EverydayHealthWomensHealth_20080609

I take medication for both anxiety and depression. When my symptoms first stated I went talk therapy but have since stopped going because I can't afford the copay! Recently my Dr. had change my medication for anxiety because my body was becoming use to the medication I was taking. After 2 different medicines I have found one that is working well. I try and keep myself busy and think positively. Sometimes it helps and sometimes not so much. But I know when i am having a bad day what I am feeling is only temporary and that helps.

"This too shall pass." Remembering that a bad feeling is only temporary is a very good idea.

I have had anxiety for most of my life and I haven't been on medication, yet. It doesn't mean that I don't have problems because of my anxiety. I think anxiety has kept me from moving up at my job or even keeping a job. But, I think a lot of my problem is related to my glands and having a chemical imbalance. That's one of the reasons why I watch my diet carefully. If my sugar and sodium is unstable, my anxiety goes sky high. So, I make sure I eat a well balanced, healthy diet. Since I've been really careful, I've found that my anxiety has improved tremendously. I also use some self realization, too where I make myself more aware when I am having anxiety. That helps, too, along with prayer.

Sounds like you have some really good ideas for keeping your anxiety at bay without taking medication, that is very good. I do a lot of self-talk and prayer also.

My cousin has had many anxiety attacks and she says that the only way that she can rid herself of them is by lowering her levels of stress and by taking medication and going to theropy. There are not very many ways to treat this condition.

Hi Rozie37 ! I've been living with my anxiety for a long time and in the last few years copingwith it. Self talk helps me as does threat assesment. where I run through my checklist( I get paranoic anxiety attacks in large public places) and challenge my assumptions like "no everybody is not looking at me" or " I'm not akward or out of place". Ive done 'exposure' work which means slowly exposing myself to busier and busier places like a market, then the mall, then a football match! I think actually having a therapist that could identify the difficuties I have was part of the problem, the Mental Health service in Britain is absolutley shocking. It took me nearly two years to get the help I need. Have you ever tried going to a support group ?

I have been to some support groups and they don't really work for me. Because of the types of disorders that I have, most people can not relate to me at all.

There are many times that I wake up sad. Then I put on my gospel music and think about the goodness of God and the sadness goes right away.
