Voyeurism...

Even though the writer puts it out there for anyone to read, do you think that reading someone’s blog can be likened to voyeurism, or perhaps being fly on the wall in someone else’s life?

Yes I do Rose.... I also think bloggers are exhibitionists themselves and enjoy letting people catch glimpses into their loves and lives... Shoot we here in mylot do that often. How many of our friends do you know that actually treat posting like an online diary? I mean we know what each others moods are like, we know what happened to each other in our day to day conversations. I actually think its pretty cool!

I'm with you, Angel, I think it's very cool what we do, how we talk with each other, and share so much. And yeah, this whole thing is like one big, shared diary, Sybill x 35. Aren't there around that many in our group, Angel? Doesn't matter, you know what I mean...

Hi Rosekitty, no I don't think so. I read autobiographies sometimes and they are published books about that persons life but I don't see it as that at all, so would class blogs in the same way. Like you say if they didn't want it read it wouldn't be written. I would class it as voyeurism if you were snooping into someone elses personal journal that is not for everyone to read that sort of thing cos then you are peaking into someones life without permission. Ellie :D

I guess it could be considered voyeurism. But the same could be said about anyone buying a magazine to read the latest gossips on their favourite celebrities. Most people seem to have the need to find out what other people do... so that they can gossip about it. They gossip about their family members, their friends and their neighbours. It seem that the only reason that they want to find out about someone... is so that they can go and tell the whole world about it. It is quite a sick concept really.

I feel that blogs are an invitation to see into the person. I don't think its being voyeuristic, they are sharing what they feel like, not what you are prying into.

Hehe..funny you should mention about blogs...I've never really been into the blog thing, but just now I updated my Pet Blog...it's a blog dedicated to all my kitties, past and present...actually it's almost like a journal I'm keeping starting with the very first kitty I had, Babette...I plan to keep at it until I have the memories down of so many of my beloved babies...so yes, in a way a cyberspace diary for anyone to read.

No I don't. Blogs can be 'closed' to the public if the author so wishes. So if they aren't, then the author obviously wants what they have written to be read. Wanna read MY blog you voyeur you? I have naked ladies! LOL

I've found some blogs are very personal, and people are really telling everything they're thinking, etc. That does feel a bit voyeuristic, especially if you just found the blog by chance and don't actually know the person in real life.
