My Dad went in the army at 18 and came out at about 30. My Dad came out of the army mainly because of me, I did not recognise him when he would come home, did not know him because I had not seen him and would scream the place down! He left the army when I was 4 and he and my Mum then went into the pub business, which to be honest is not much different than the army because I saw even less of them both then as they were downstairs in the pub all the time!
Talking to my Dad the other day he was telling me about his upcoming army reunion. Every year for as long as I can remember he has gone to these reunions he loves them! My Mum was also in the WAFS and both of my Grandfathers were in the RAF and the army!
I wander how many of you have relations in the army? What is life like for you having family in the Army, especially today with the way things are?
How about your Grandparents were they in the Army too?
For those that have left the Army, do you go to any reunions?

Sounds as though you found both lives a bit difficult sweetheart and although I have never been involved with the army I can understand it must have been so awful not to know your Dad when he got home! I know how difficult pub life can be on a family but my bosses were in the lucky position of being able to have one at home most of the time! I really admire the way you have came through all the adversitys sweety and gone on to be such a fabulous person - no matter what age you were when that happened! xxx

It was hard and I was an only child, I know that they had to work and they earned good money so that was why they did it.
They did it for 22 years before quitting.

None of mine have thought about it yet either, hoping it stays that way. Heard what their pay is the other day, it is a pittance for what they give their countries! Hugsxx

My husband was in the Army for 17 years before we met. I don't think I could handle him being gone all of the time if we were together back then. He used to be married before his divorce when we met. He said he had his family travel to wherever he was stationed and they did get to see each other often. He also brought his mother to visit. His ex-wife didn't like it and she cheated on him and married someone else, even though they had three children together. she didn't care if it worked out or not.
