I think big company like Hotmail, Gmail or Yahoo won't do stupid things by disclosing our personnel data in our emails accounts. If you can proof they disclosed anything, then sure you will win the court case. But, proving it is not an easy task.

Our information might be vulnerable to both staff of the site and hacker. There is nothing so-called private or secrete in this world beside than saving in our own brain.

But our brains are not safe too. Human beings forget.

i do not think that they are very private. i do not know how these private service providers monitor the mails. in office i have heard that network admins can check the information flow from each id.

I think that is very possible. I think our internet service providers sell our email addresses to other compnaies and those companies send us spam email messages. I don't think it is right at all but that is how we are getting alot of our spam messages. Also, websites we join, also sell our email address to others too sometimes.

e-mail providers will not sell our email addresses for money. Because they are trying their best to fight with spamming. But the spammer can still get you email address by some advanced technology. For example: use a crawler to craw the web to scan for emails. If you ever leave you email address on any place of the internet, it will be fetched by the crawler. By the way, if some one sell our email addressed, how much is it? I am curious.

well if you use free e-mail providers then definitely you can assume that your e-mail service provider will misuse your personal information. even people or administrators of your paid email subscription can also view your private messages. more destructive then these people are the spammers and trogens that really trace your personal and financial information. you must be more worried about these rather then the information on your e-mail

Yes, It is true. But our emails are not read by human. Instead they are read by some program. And there are billions of emails everyday all around the world, they will not pay special attention to yours unless you are Bin Laden. So it is relatively safe to use email.
