I got burned at match .com

One of the people I was trading emails with hacked into both my computers. Every morning I check to see what my virus program picked up. Everyone gets tagged with owner/cookies/ some type of tracker. But my cookies had my actual name on them! This guy from match changed system folder names and turned off firewalls. He broke through my AVG virus program and when I tried to delete the program, he attached code that started an auto back-up file. It locked up my computer and the only way to break it was to pull the plug. He attached tracers to my pictures, my documents, even to things I tried to print. This guy was good. I just got my laptop back from the shop, they wiped everything clean. I'm not going to fix my desktop, it costs too much! Match refunded my money, but it didn't come close to covering the expense of repairs and new virus programs. And, now I don't have a word program! Does anyone know of a good free word program that works with Windows? ***Watch out for urls when you log on to a website. If you see anything like this /login/login instead of login, or in place of match . com/mymatch match . com/matchus, back out and contact the website.**** I separated all the dots and the coms because I don't want that website coming anywhere near my computer! Sorry for all the conversations I lost track of during the last four days I spent recovering my computer and my privacy.

I am sorry that this happened to you... I am glad that I have never used match.com. Thanks for sparing me and other people the same problems you had. You did a kind deed today.

I hope enough people read this to get the word out. I thought chemistry had a better reputation and I was more likely to find a match on that website. I didn't look for very long on that websire because the same guys on match were on chemistry! I didn't look for the hacker guy. I don't know if he's on chemistry or not.

Wow, I can't believe that someone would have done that. I am glad that match.com did refund you for it, but you would think they would do more then that and make sure that nobody can do that to their system or to anyone else's that uses that service. It seems to me that's just bad rep! Glad your back here and that you've got your laptop to use the internet. Have a Great day.

SomeCowGirl_ My complaint went all the way to their corporate office, or so they tell me.If anyone asked me about that website, I would tell them to stay away from it. It is good to be back here on mylot. I missed everyone.

Match.com was a looser for me as well. The one person I met face to face on there wanted someone to match funds with so he could relocate. He was a controller and too much like my ex. I really don't know how we can learn to trust when people fall to such low levels. I no longer wish to meet anyone on line. If chance brings someone my way then so be it. I am not searching any more.

loujac_ The guy I met was very controlling as well. We didn't even get past the e-mail stage before I decided this guy was trouble. I came to the same conclusion. No more searching. I am learning to change my thought patterns. I think something in my personality draws the same kind of guys to me over and over again.

kun_ Trust me. I watch that URL everytime I open a website. It's not much fun staying on guard all the time. Maybe in a few days I can relax again.

That is terrible. I don't understand why people do that to other people. His life must be really dismal for him to have to get thrills out of hurting someone else like that. So sad. I am very sorry this happened to you. I hope you get your computer back to satisfactory working order.

ladym_ I also speculated why anyone would attack someone online. It felt like a game to me. The attempts I made to find and eradicate his spying, were counter-acted by planting something else on my computer. Now I'm a bit paranoid. My computer is running well, but this morning I thought the same guy found me again. I made the tech at the computer store look into every nook and cranny to assure me all was well. I didn't ask him if there was a charge. I said thank you and good-bye. He really helped soothe my worries.

I'm so sorry to hear about that! Man! How long were you corresponding with this guy? You should have posted his name so others could steer clear of him! I told you I'd get back to you with the site where I met my hubby. It was MatchMaker.com. You can choose your area, too! I'm glad my hubby and I were born and raised in the same city, and lived only 19 miles apart when we met! Oh, and it's free, too. But I suppose you can find people like this anywhere. It's a scary world! Man! Oh, man! I can't get over this! Dang! I told you in another post that my computer was hacked into once... it was someone my son knew who, apparently, had a really big chip on his shoulder over something my son said. Some people will stop at nothing to screw up your world. I just can't get inside the mind of people like that. I'm glad you could get at least one of your computers back online again. I was wondering where you went. I'll ask my hubby about a good, free word program when he wakes up. I belong to a software forum, but for the life of me I can't find the IP address! I've written a question in to the forum and am awaiting a response in order to give you the address. (This is all done by email once you join... you post a question, and get answers by other members who have one [an answer, that is]. I joined a gazillion years ago, so I'll just have to wait for a response.) My husband likes Notepad. That I DO know. I prefer MS Word, but that's not free. Notepad is. I'm going to quit rambling now and get this ol' body to bed. It's after 2 a.m.! Welcome Back!!!

Ah mental_ Thanks for noticing my absence. I was so lonely! I don't think we were corresponding for more than two days before he latched onto me. Match told me they deleted his profile and I don't want to mention his name in case he tracks me somehow. I know, I'm paranoid. I'm trying to get the whole experience out of my head and start over again with a clean computer, but no dating websites. Thanks for asking your husband about word programs. I can't remember the name of the two free word programs I found online. I'm not much help, even for me! Kinda bummed out and exhausted. I bought upgraded word last year, but HP had to give my computer new guts and then the computer techs wiped it out to the bare minimums. You can't have an upgrade without the basic word. I'm trying to use anything but microsoft products. I'm so tired of all of this. Okay, bye.
