Constantly Drained

I don't understand it but lately I'm constantly drained. I always feel so tired and have little to no motivation. I used to be able to go to bed between 11 and 1, and get up at 7 or 8. Now, I'm having a hard time falling asleep at night, and I NEVER want to get up in the morning. When I do sleep for a long period, it doesn't feel like I'm sleeping at all. I know that if I lost some weight and ate healthier, maybe that would help me feel better. I think I'm also a little bit depressed or something, and I also feel like I have a bit of insomnia again. How do you fix this? Sometimes vitamins help me, but I feel so down and tired that I don't think this will help me right now. How do you repair yourself when you really can't figure out what is wrong?

You may be on the edge of adrenal burnout, which isn't uncommon for people who are running around very busy and stressed in life. First thing I would do if this is the case is to cut down on caffeine or cut it out totally, if you can. Then, I would try to eat healthy foods and cut the sugar and saturated fats in your diet, if any. Adrenal burnout can make you feel both tired and affect your mood. If you take care of those glands, you'll feel better. Vitamins only work if you have a deficiency. If you have more serious adrenal problems, vitamin B can help, but I would check with your doctor.

That is a good suggestion, I never thought of it. I actually think that maybe i"m a bit dehydrated too. For about 5 straight days I've had a migraine from HECK and been taking motrin to try to make it go away. Suddenly, last night I was thinking of what could be giving me a headache, and how crappy I've been feeling lately--- I've totally NOT been drinking! For the past 4 days (other than a cup of coffee each day) I only had about a 1/2 a glass of soda. That was it! No water, no nothing! Last night I drank a few glasses of water before bed, and today my headache seems to be gone. Also, yesterday we ate healthy all day--- and I know one day isn't much--- but today I feel a bit better. Thank you so much for your ideas though, I'm going to look up some stuff on adrenal burnout because I think that also might be something that could be going on. Thanks again!

That's great that the water and the healthy food helped. I have some serious adrenal problems myself, so it's easy for me to spot the symptoms of someone's glands getting tired. If it continues or gets worse, you can probably check with your doctor. It's funny that you mentioned headaches as that's another common symptom, too.

I came back to this post to see WHEN I had posted it. I just found out today that I'm pregnant... about 6 weeks. So I guess that explains why I was feeling so drained, in addition to not drinking enough water. Lately, I'm drinking like crazy, and now I guess I know why. Wanted to touch base and let you know though...

The easiest thing to try to do is to drink PLENTY of water. I was feeling just like you and when I started drinking an 8 oz glass of water before and after each meal my energy increased in just a few days. You are correct about vitamins, but also some form of daily exercise helps us sleep better and have more energy. A 15 min walk twice a day is a great way to start. And cut out as much sugar from your diet as possible. If those things help then you are on the right track and you can furthur your success in that direction. Blessings!

I think you hit the nail on the head. Last night after posting this I was also wondering why on top of feeling run down I've had these terrible migraines for about 4 days. I kept associating it with that time of the month--- and kept taking motrin to make it go away. It wouldn't go away! Last night, I remembered that for the last 4-5 days I haven't drank about anything! I drank a bit of water last night, and today my headache is gone! I'm still tired, but I think if I re-hydrate myself and try to relieve some stress that I'll start sleeping better, and feel more rested. Also, last night we all walked to the park-- just to get away from the house. I think that helped me too. The weather was so nice, not so hot and it was good weather for walking. Going to try to do it again today. Thank you for your pos!

oh dear that sounds like a bout of depression. Not something serious, a mild case of depression. What I usually do when I get hit is take a break. I'd take a few days off from work and just veg out at home. Letting myself recuperate from all that hussle bustle. It is quite therapeutic for me, especially when I lay my hands on a few good books. It is important to feed our mind from time to time. As for losing weight what is your BMI? It'll be ideal to get it down to 23 or less. That way you'll feel less lethargic too. Take care and feel better soon. ;)

I actually thing that it was lack of water that caused me to feel so down and tired. I'm feeling alot better. Since I posted that message, I've actually list 12 pounds. My boyfriend and I have gone on a diet together. It's nice to have a partner. My son is currently in the hospital, so I'm having issues with my diet because I don't have access to the foods that I was eating-- but I am trying to be really careful, drinking alot of water and taking alot of walks while I'm stuck in here with him. I wish I had access to a scale here, I'd like to see what weight I'm still out so I know if I'm doing good or not. HOpefully we will be home in a few days, and I'll be able to check. thanks for your post!

I'd suggest some vitamin/energy drinks. I'm on a vitamin drink cure at the moment. I didn't eat a lot and lost weight and my stomach was hurting alot, so my doctor told me to start vitamin drink cure. I have to only drink them for 6 weeks, only them and some water, and it has really revitalized me. I felt tired before all the time, but now its so easy to wake up in the morning at 6 or 7 and go to sleep at midnight. It really gave me alot of energy, but i don't suggest you only start using them as its expensive and dangerous without doctors consultation, but you could drink lets say two a day for lunch, and only two of those drinks can cover whole lunch/dinner. You can find them from apothecary. Also have you tried to eat iron tablets? You should go to take a needle and see if your hemoglobin is low and have anemia, that causes tireness. Hope i helped, and good luck!

Actually, I am STILL anemic from having my son (and 6 surguries) and I'm supposed to be taking 3 iron pills a day. However, I've felt a lot better without taking them, and now I have been just trying to take them around my period time since I feel the crappiest and weakest then. Last month, and this month, I didn't take the pills--- so I wonder if that IS another reason why I feel so blah. That was one of the reasons I was taking the multi-vitamins, but I guess they don't have as much iron in them as 3 iron pills do. I guess I'm going to have to start taking my pills better. I have to remember so much for my son that I have been forgetting and neglecting myself. Last night, I just remembered that for 5 days I have only drank a cup of coffee each day and maybe a half a cup of soda. So, on top of everything else I think I was having migraines from being dehydrated. I wonder if dehydration also makes you feel run down too....

One more thing... do you know if you can test for iron levels at home? I don't have insurance at the moment, so going to the doctor isn't something I can do without paying a fortune. Do they have a kit at home you can test yourself, kinda like they do for diabetic people?
