It really just depends on how fast the girls system is going. If she has a matt of hair on her legs, than I say she should shave her legs. That sort of stuff gets pretty embarassing, especially for a girl her age. Heck, even my little sister shaves.

11 years old is not that uncommon now adays. The youngest I have seen that shaved her legs was 9. Now I say that is too young. The hormones of young girls is going down at a drastic rate over time. I didn't have to start shaving my legs till I was 15 years old. With these girls hormones they are even starting their period earlier as well.

I think my daughter was 12 but she could have been 11. I was probably 12 also. I don't think the exact age is such a big deal. I think when she first started talking about it, I discouraged her. I told her it was a pain to shave and told her about razor stubble. But, it gets to a point where girls start to fee self concious about hair legs. If most of the girls around them are shaving. The girl who doesn't shave may start to get teased or she just feels different. Of course, it's good for children not to be afraid of being a little different. And peer pressues is not a good reason to do things, but at the same time, kids will always want to try to "fit in" as best they can. It think people worry way too much about things like shaving. There are far bigger issues in life that a girl will be confronting soon enough.

I might have been 12 or 13. Some girls develop early, like as early as 9 or 10, and if all of their little friends don't have hairy legs and they do, I'd say it's fine for her to shave her legs.

It really depends on the girl . I was 12. Some girls develope more quickly and mature faster than others. Its definatley okay if it is needed. She will have to learn soon anyway.. so its good that someone is teaching her how to become a woman. AND just because shes shaving her legs .. it does not mean that she will stop doing the things that eleven year olds do!! she still has her own personalities and hobbies... she has just developed faster, and theres nothing wrong with that. :)

That does seem young, and she looks so young too, in the picture you posted. But, I remember being about 12 or 13 when I started, and I think I was the last one. Mostly everyone did it in 6th or 7th grade. That was awhile ago, but kids seem to only be doing things younger and younger as time goes on.

I think I started shaving my legs at the same age, or even a little earlier. But, when I was 11, I looked like I was 15 or 16 and already had a good amount of hair on my legs. If she has a lot of hair, especially dark hair, then it's probably time. If not, then her friends are probably ragging her to do it.

I have an 11 year old niece who shaves her legs too. My sister told her not to but she did it anyway. I don't think it is too young. I started shaving mine when I was 11 also. :)

My daughter is 12 and I let her start shaving her legs when she turned 12. I have a friend who has a 10 year old daughter and after I taught my daughter how to shave, I guess she thought it was a good time to teach her daughter to. I think 10 years old is way too early to start shaving, it just encourages them to grow up wayyyy too fast, as if they don't do that already. I only let my daughter because she has brown hair and the hair on her legs was getting darker and becoming a lot more noticable.

This makes me think of the time when I was in about 8th grade, I had my first major crush, and my friend was on the phone with him and she told him I didn't shave my legs. And you know, it wasn't something I was that concerned with, but it was more just like, I can't believe she told him that, considering some people do care about that stuff. Anyway, I went in the bathroom and proceeded to shave my legs... with a disposable razor, and no soap or water! Completely dry. Let me just say, that did not feel nice! LOL The worst part was, she was saying how her mom said it was nasty and dirty not to shave (not that they were the epitome of class anyway.. LOL). I still don't see the big deal. If I had an 11 year old I guess I would let them shave, but I would encourage them to do it because they wanted to, and to be smart about it, unlike doing it like I did it, out of "shame".

Today it really isn't. It all depends on the girl. I was 11 and my legs were so hairy....this was back in the 60's and my mom had a fit when she caught me sneaking my dad's razor. she forbid me to shave my legs until I was at least 15. why? it is just shaved legs. because she was so strict, I suffered much teasing from other kids at school because back then girls could not wear pants to school. It was horrible. I have 4 girls and I have never stopped them from this. 2 of them started shaving between 11 and 12 and 2 of them did not even think about it until almost 13. I don't understand what the big deal is with it.

I think it's too young, but then I'm from a different generation. Kids today seem to be growing up way too fast. Maybe they have to. I don't know the reason. I started shaving my legs at 14. I didn't get my ears pierced until I was 16. I was 19 before I lost my virginity. I've seen 14 year olds with kids of their own! I just can't believe it. Not old enough to drive, but already a mother. I guess shaving at 11 is becoming the norm. I'm sure peer pressure has something to do with it. As long as her values are straight, I guess I can't see any reason why she shouldn't shave her legs. I just had no reason to do it myself at age 11.

I am twenty-three years old, and I've never shaved my legs. I don't think I need to. It's just a fashion trend. I people don't like my legs, they don't have to look at them.

hairy legs is not attractive. i don't see nothing wrong. my daughter had to shave her legs. (too much hair) maybe you didn't have that much hair. and you have to understand that kids will make fun of other kids. You don't what that to happen to her.

You know this is a cultural thing too. I wish I had never started. It is a pain in the behind. My daughter is 11 now and she has brought it up a couple times. I told her once you start, you are stuck. Just enjoy the freedom of being a little girl right now. I don't want her feeling pressured into doing something like that just because her peers do. When and if it is time, we will know.

im already twenty years old now, but i never tried shaving my legs even before.. im afraid that i might have a not so good result if il try shaving my legs.. besides im not that vain that i will shave my legs.. anyway, with regards to your niece, i think she thinks that she's already old enough to do the things she was not supposed to be doing at a young age.. let's accept the fact that children now are growing so easily.. for us we still consider them as the little girls and boys they used to, but for them they consider themselves as grown ups and mature individuals.. just give her the freedom, i know she knows what's good for her..

good day.. well I can't honestly say if it's too young but I guess it would depend if she needed to shave her legs. I started shaving my beard and mustache when I was already in my 20's

I think it all depends on how much hair she has. I started when I was twelve and there were other girls that started at eleven then. It can get embarrassing if it shows to much. Cheers, Tianna
