Wednesday night I left a little earlier to pick my wife up from work. I stopped off the shores of the Mississippi River in and mnear Downtown Minneapolis. I just wanted to share some of the scenerey I can experience of the Mighty Mississippi River from a large downtown area very near me. This bridge is the Hennipen Avenure Bridge. A major route to and from Downtown. This street has most the theatres and bars etc in downtown. They're are a couple parks as well along the river in downtown which I will post in another discussion. The sky was a deep blue just before sunset in this shot and that is what makes this a great shot I feel. Is there a major river near a large city near you that you visit? Are there parks along the river in this city as well? HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

It's not in my immediate area but there is a bridge cnear DahlgrenVa. crossing the Potomac river that is fun to cross. The Chesapeake Bay bridge linking Western Md. with the EasternShore of Md. is a large suspension bridge that is quite immense and well traveled.

I lived for a short time near Three Rivers area in PA many moons ago. The Alleghany, Potamc and one otjher indian named river. It was also very near the mountains as well. Can't recall their name though. It was a town called Warren PA. I loved the 3 rivers and their parks they had. I am from Michigan originally and have not seen a suspension bridge as long as the Mackinaw bridge though. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Yes...there are several cities or towns that I visit along the mighty Mississippi....I love Wabasha....Winona...and Red Wing. They do have beautiful parks along the river way. It's been a long time since I have been downtown Mpls. might have to do that someday soon.

ast year I posted discussions and photos from the Riverfront in red Wing. I love the antique stores there. An awesome old city. I also go to the Sculpture Garden in Minneapolis which has sculptures outdoors in a huge park near the Minneapolis Institute of Arts. I think thats the building it's at anyhow. Not too sure. I may go there and get some shots of the great art work there. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Yes, I live near a river and for the life of me it escapes me what it is called, I want to say it's the ohio river. Actually I am pretty sure that's the name of it the more I think about it. It is between where I live and Louisville, Ky. There are several parks along the river. I haven't taken any pictures of the area but maybe I will get to do that tomorrow since it is my last day of vacation.

Indiana is where I live. Sunny side of Louisville! The way this week has gone, nothing as planned has gone the way it has supposed to, so I'm not too sure if I will get to do it tomorrow or not!

Hi Grandpa Bob from sizzling sunny ninety degrees Ca. whew I am so warm. sounds so prettyto read about the Missippi river and the parks and theatres. I am really having to thinkon thisone about a major river near a large' city near me? How about the Pacific Ocean lol as thats the only large body of water anywhere close to where I live 'here in Tustin. Newport Beach is right on the Pacific' and when I get to feeling good again will take another'bus down to just stand and marvel at the tide going in and out.we live about eight miles from Newport beach so its not a long ride. the only other river at all close by is a trickle, apathetic'trickle called the Santa Ana river lol.it eventually goes down into the ocean of course. up in northern ca are alot of rivers and lakes but not in Southern Ca. but we do have' the gorgeous Pacific ocean. I imagine on a hot day like today you would be hard pressed to find a bit of beach to yourself however. In my home state of S,D. we had the misssippi river and the missouri river both. the missouri bisects the state. well now I must see those gorgeous pictures of yours. lol.

I lived in the Keys in Florida for a bit and loved sitting on the shores waiting for the tide. Awesome thing of nature and a sight to behold first hand. Here in Minnesota we have so many lakes that one can find a beach with a few or no people on it actually. The States slogan is "Minnesota, Land of 10,000 Lakes" after all. There are probably 100 or more lakes all within a 25 mile drive from my house that i could swim at. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

We live close to the SATILLA River, the ALTAMAHA River The Savannah river, the St. Marys River. also the Atlantic ocean. I do like to go to downtown on the riverwalk in Savannah where they still have all the old cobblestone walkways. I also like to take the kids to the park in downtown St. Marys where they can play and i can sit in a gazebo on the river.

Hike and bike trail - Along Lady Bird Lake
Austin is on the Colorado River (no, not that one.) There is a series of dams to control flooding, the last 2 dams in the series are in Austin proper. One is actually the 3rd dam in its place and makes Lake Austin. After Lady Bird Johnson passed away recently, they quickly renamed the lake long known as Town Lake to Lady Bird Lake. (I actually made a bet they'd do that in less than a month, they did it in less than 2 weeks.) They named it after her because she was instramental in the "beautification" of the lake shore. There's a trail that runs along most of the lake from the Loop 1 bridge to the Drake bridge. I think it is somewhat over a mile on each side, but I don't know for sure.

I will look at the photo after I post this email. I am sure it is a pretty site. I bet you are glad you live on the other end of the Mighty Mississippi river. Those poor people are sure in a mess with all the flooding and tornadoes. I feel so bad for all of them. Now the Red Cross has gone broke helping all the disaster victims. I have not hear of that before.

Hi Bob, how are u. u have nice narrative powers, and u derive it well, well where i live (pakistan), we have River, and quite old river though, but 50 yrs back we have an agreement = with India, (Indus Basen) according to it. we dont get much water in it on regular basis, except when their is flood and water over flows from dams they have on it. so currently it has more sand than water, and u can see people digging the sand for construction purpose we do have some parks at its corner but not much fun now. we had as old Mughals Building in centre of it and people go their to enjoy by boat. Thats all, but sure Mississippi river sound good Bye
