How long should we wait before selecting a best response?

I have given only very few "best response" to my discussions! I'm confused about which is the right time to select our best responses! Some times we get our favorite response only after we have selected our best response! This problem does not occur when the when the responses are objective in nature, like i remember once i giving a best response to some one who helped me how to change my avatar here in mylot, the question was specific so was the answer thus it was easy to select the best response, even if more than one person gave the same response we could award it to the first person who made the response. But the problem is when the responses are subjective in nature. You might get a better response after you have selected your best response. So my question is, how long should we wait before we select our "best response"?

I would rather wait 30 days, 10 days is ok if the discussion is not inviting lot of responses.

It isn't soemthing we have to do, give best responses, but is a choice we are given. I always clean up my best responses by waiting a couple days and then I go to the link on the left hand side that says my unresolved responses and then pick the best responses. I don't wait till I have a bunch of responses, I do them all before the end of the month just because I like to clean things up. Even if at the end of the month, I only have one response to my discussion I still mark the best response so that it doesn't come up in the unresolved catagory. The best response mark doesn't really matter, though, because it doesn't do anything for the person you marked, anyways. I thought that the mark would go to helping the persons rating but it doesn't. I thought that marking it would help to increase a person's earnings, but it doesn't. I actually contacted mylot about this subject, and they emailed me back and told me it doesn't help the other person I am marking, or me, It just takes the discussion out of the catagory unresolved.

i have noticed an increase in earnings when ever i received a best response, but any way i feel that's the way it should be, both the person selecting the best response and the person receiving it should get some thing out of it!

I emailsed mylot and asked them about that same thing, how it affects us, and they said it doesn't do anything to our earnings or reputation so I asked why even bother with it then, and they said because it is what the members want.

I wait until there is a response worth choosing. If there isn't any good answers I wait till there is one.

In this regard,it will be better if we wait for a month or three weeks. I think after so many days,no one is going to respond such a old discussion.I think,by having patience,I can select the best one.

yes one month would be ideal... i think mylot should force every user to select a best response after one month, if the user don't select then other members should be given the option to vote for a best response.

Usually I wait for three weeks to one month and after that I will go through all the responses and mark the one I think is the best.

Normally , I make a week as the limit for choose best response. But sometimes I find that within one hour, I receive a " perfect answer", I immediately mark it as best response.

I hardly give BR as I can never decide who to give BR to. Usually in a discussion, there will be more than one good replies. I feel bad giving BR to one person and not to others. So, I would rate those good replies positive instead.
I'll only give a BR if the reply is exceptionally good.
Anyway, if you really want to give a BR, I think 1 month is good.

Hello,
I like to wait atleast one month before I will give out best response to a member of my lot . If something will catch my eye right off the bat I will give it to them.There have been times when after I give the response I will get one that I like better,but there really is nothing you can do . Just give a plus sign and I am sure they help some.
