Has Facebook Gone too far?

So I was at work the other day and I was on facebook for 5 minutes and all of the sudden my boss comes storming over yelling.."Why are you on facebook.." and whenever I hear those footsteps I always exit out of it. Apparently with its new feature you can see who is on their website right now and even IM them. So now she doesn't stomp over here anymore...she IM's me saying "Why are you on facebook.." I can never go on it again at work. Has it gone too far?

I don't think it has gone too far I think the messaging service on it is great because it means I can talk to people I normally wouldn't see face to face or would have their email. I can see though that it's hindered your efforts to be on it during the day but your boss shouldn't be on it either!

No, I don't think so. A lot of folks would like that feature. I like it when I go online and can see my friends are on. If your boss doesn't want you on facebook while you are at work, you shouldn't be on there. You can't blame facebook for adding a feature a lot of people probably asked for just because you don't like it.

All you need to do is REMOVE your boss from your friends' list then block her and you should not hesitate to do this. 'What is she doing on facebook' when she finds you on facebook?:)

If that is too risky, go offline!:)

There's an option in the chat to disable being online on chat. But of course, you'll need twenty seconds of online time to do that.

hey, dont think bad about face book.it is just a new feature to its users.Let us think u r in ur jome not office and u see a buddy on face book.then u can immediately IM them and talk with them. I also feel that u should start using face book only at home not office.your boss may take it very serious if u dont stop doing that.then u may get fired.

Either knock your boss off of it as a friend or stay off of it at work. You can't blame Facebook for trying to improve the site.

No, I don't think they've gone too far, though I think it would be nice to be hidden if you wanted to. But, I don't know if your boss is using Facebook to find you. A lot of workplaces monitor website activity on their servers. I know mine does. So, it's entirely possible that she can see all the websites that people use in a given day and probably has a computer number to match the websites to. I don't know how big your company is or how anonymous you are, but that could be the reason why. If your company is tremendously large, then I don't know what else it could be.

It's obviously not Facebook that's the problem- it's you. You're the one who went on the site. Facebook didn't make you- it hasn't done anything wrong. Why are you on Facebook at work anyway? Your boss has a right to be angry. They have caught a worker slagging off. What's your excuse when they ask 'why are you on facebook?'. The chat feature at the bottom of Facebook shows who is online. However, it only shows those who have set themselves as online. If you don't want anyone to know you're online, change the settings to offline. And why is your boss on your Facebook- you shouldn't have added them as a friend and thought more carefully of the consequences. Sad to say but the fault is yours. Nadine.

Ok!!! The question to me is....WHY IS HE/SHE on it. I mean they have to be on it , in order to know that you were on. I mean what is the big deal. Facebook is so very harmless. And i am a member on that site, and the only wya that you can tell if someone is on is if that person is your friend. So is your boss your friend on there?

I personally think the IM thingy is brilliant. Anyway, I don't see anything wrong for one being on Facebook. Maybe your boss herslef is a Facebook addict as well & that's why she gets so offensive? HahahahaAs long as the work is done & if Facebook helps you relax a bit, I don't see no wrong unless one really gets obsessed with it which too is very possible
