The Democrat presidential nominee said his plan would employ “these Archie Bunker-type people” in government programs “to register and/or confiscate inappropriate personal firearms, to monitor churches for hate-speech about homosexuality or abortion, and to build tax-funded housing for low income illegal aliens.”
“Twenty-five years is a long time to wallow in bitterness like our friends in Pennsylvania, the Midwest and elsewhere have been doing,” said Sen. Obama, “So, until the steel mills can all be converted to casinos and re-opened, we’ll provide good government jobs at high wages that will soothe the rage, and help to re-educate these small-town folk.”

Wow, thanks for the satire label. I was getting ready to check your reference link. This quote sounded only slightly plausable and unlikely to me, but not impossible.

You may be surprised to find how many folks regard this sort of thing as fact, not political satire. Because it is on the Internet, some will use it to reinforce the negative opinions and stereotypes they already hold.

Gosh, you startled me.
I was all; "o_o....WHAT? *prepared self to scour the net for something to back what you said up*"
Then.."Oh...it's satire? HAHAAHAHA. Whew, thank Goddess."
*laughs*

Our country is in so much trouble!
Who's paying for these cranky people's jobs? Oh, yeah, that's right... ME! The tax payer. Why not let these cranky old folks get a job as a Walmart greeter and not live off the taxpayers with government jobs just because they're old and cranky.

Yeah, churches being vetted for hate speech is what took place in Chicago a few months ago. People actually staked out at a church and listened to the pastors' speeches so they can use them against a candidate. It is not only the government that can vet churches for hate speech. The speeches and actions of the people in a community can also hinder freedom of speech.

Satire or not, we may soon see some of this taking place. The churches will no longer be able to speak the Truth from the Word about homosexuality. It will be considered hate speech to speak against it or abortion. I am afraid the change that Obama wants is not the change that America needs or wants, and, if he become President,I think we are in for trouble. We too often rely on the government to do things that we need to be doing, and we have gotten ourselves into a pickle! With the liberals in complete control in November, we conservative Christians are truly in for a rude awakening! Our voice may be completely lost, if Pelosi has her way and the conservative talk show hosts are silenced!

While this may be satire, it is not far from the truth.
That part about churches being monitored for hate speech is already a reality in Canada, and if we don't put a stop to the trend it will happen here as well.
People are already being arrested and charged for preaching in public and for violating so-called free - speech zones (which is a violation of the 1st Amendment).
That law that recently passed in Colorado outlaws criticizing homosexuality in any form outside of a church building(for now).
Your satire is not far off the mark.

I'm also glad you put your disclaimer about it being satire because, you know how some people are, there would have been those who would have taken you literally. I must correct you - we haven't been bitter for twenty-five years here in Pa., it may have seemed like twenty-five HUNDRED years but it's only been about 7 1/2.
