What do you do with your nails?

I was routing through some things today and I came across my nail varnish collection. I could not believe that I had so many, and so many different colours too. Most of them I had to throw away due to them being solid, but some can be saved with a few drops of nail polish remover. It brought back memories of how I was never without nail polish on my nails, of how I would give them the full works (myself) and would paint my own designs on them too. None of this nail tattoo was about then, I used to do them myself, and people would always comment on them. Same as my toenails I used to have fairly long toenails, well manicured, well painted they looked ace in the summer. I would have a different colour on every few days. Now I am lucky if I even get the chance to file them! I miss all that! So how much care do you give to your nails? Do you spend lots of time manicuring them and painting them? How many colour nail varnishes do you own? Do you go to nail bars? OR do you just leave them to their own devices due to not being bothered about them or just too busy?

im semi obsessive with mine.. but like you, i do them myself. only colors i use on em tho are clear and sometimes black. i DO however love putting designs on mine too. but only one, the pinky nail on my right hand gets done up. i got tired of trying to paint withmy left hand tho.. so when i do get creative with it now, i usually just fuse something to the nail.. a silver star.. a cresent moon.. a little kitten.. and then put the clear polish over it to seal it in. those shaped glitter things are awesome for it.

It is hard to do with the left hand, an aquired knack! I like those little sticker things too, there are so many things now that can be done to nails, it's mad!

I have never had the time to take care of my fingernails. They are so brittle and chip and break off anyway. the only thing I have ever done with mine, is paint them and file them. My daughter goes and gets her nails manicured though. She also gets some tips put on and some decorations. I work too much to have nice nails.

I go and get my fingernails done. I wear Solar Nails (it is like pink and white acrylic only the gel they use is literally pink and white for a French Manicure). I don't get my toe nails done because I, for some reason, get a nail fungus on my big toe nails whenever I have paint on them. I don't know why and don't really even care to try to figure out why. All I know is that, if I paint them, or have them painted, I tend to nearly lose those toe nails completely as they grow green with a fungus. I have old nail polish around in case I do feel like risking painting my toe nails. I like to do French Pedicures on them to match my finger nails. But, I also like pretty, bright colors during the summer. If I do paint them or have them painted, I usually only do it for the summer or special occasions but, I haven't had color on them for several months since I realized what goes on with the fungus when I do.

Oh uck, I wonder if it is something in the paint that reacts with your nails, my toes are constantly painted. They look awful without now, and that is because they are discoloured through constant polish.

Be careful. That is how my problems with my toe nails started. I would constantly paint them, they started getting discolored when paint wasn't on them and suddenly, they would turn green. So, my suggestion would be to paint your toes for somewhere maybe less than a week or a week, remove the polish for a few days to let them breathe and then paint them again for a few days to a week. Then just keep repeating that pattern. Maybe then you will prevent what happened to me. I hope it doesn't happen to you. It really isn't pretty! LOL!

A week or two ago I decided to grow my nails again...and OK yes they were looking quite reasonable..but lol then they started to get in the way..the typing wwas getting worse...they were catching in my washing etc..so i promptly just took the scissors to them ...and felt much better for it too!!Like you ..many little bottles of dried up nail varnish have hit the dustbin over the past few months..and at one time I did look after them...but the total and honst truth is that I just cant be bothered with them!they are a nuisance thaat I can do without...and the skin on my hands resembles a rhino`s butt...so the two dont go hand in hand anyway!!

Hello ! as such i don't have time to go for manicure. My nails are very weak and brittle I apply nail paint once in a week and sometimes i apply oil so they become harder. But its not helping me much! Happy Mylotting!

If your nails are weak and brittle then you could be lacking some vitamins in your diet.

When I was younger I had a huge collection of funky color nail polish . I had atleast over 50 different colors and I was more into the darker shades . My nails were never long because I could never grow them that way. I used to wear light blues ,dark blues, purple, greens and all glitters. Now that I am older I grow my nails long and like to use a clear shiny polish that makes them look like a french manicure. I stay with the light color polish for both nails and feet now . I am a fan of clear, creams, light pinks, and shimmer . Those colors really do go with everything.

I used to love the glitter ones, and now I love the shimmer ones. There are so many great shades.

I used to be a nail picker, but now I trim my nails when they need to be trimmed. I am letting my nails grow out.

My nails will only grow to a certain length and then they break, I have never been able to grow really long nails.

That is a treat I give myself at least once a month. I walk on down to the nearest nail salon and get myself a manicure and pedicure. I never use to before I moved to USA though. My nails were always short because I played sports, even in Summer. My friends and I would paint them once in a while but not that often. I think I have just one nail polish bottle in our bathroom lol

I wasn't much into painting my nails because it would always get chipped off. I did see a manicurist and had my nails done with fake ones but that got to be tiring because I could only do so much with them being, well, sort of long. Besides, I don't like the pampering stuff. I'm more of a tom boy type with a feminine body. lol

Even though i'm really young to most practically 21! I don't find much time at all anymore to polish my nails. Before motherhood I really used to spend alot of time decorating them. Although I must say Gemimirose that I don't think I was as good as it as you may have been. I could never really get the polish to last on my fingernails for long however. Do you know any good brands?
@gemini_rose (16264)
22 Jun 08
Gosh you are only a baby! One brand that is pretty good is maybelline colorama, I tested this out doing washing up, and all the chores us women do in the house and it lasted 3 whole days before it chipped. Which is really good for a nail varnish, they have some nice colours too. Revlon is pretty good too. Another trick is to put one good coat of varnish on your nails and then put a clear nail varnish over the top to seal it, this gets you an extra day out of it.

I do my own nails and they do grow really well.. I have to file them to keep them within a normal usable range.. I do love the longer nails but not so long that I can't work with them, I guess you could call it a sensible length.. I also polish them but not as often as I need to.. I try not to let them get so chipped that they look bad.. My toenails are kept the same color.. I like my toenails filed short also.. I did use to do a lot more with my nails but those days are over, just enough to keep them neat and clean and looking nice.. I have also never been to a nail salon.. The fanciest that I have ever really gotten lately is the French manicure..

French manicures are really pretty, I used to do them myself, I don't reckon I could do it now. My hands are not as steady anymore!

Hey you do care a lot about your nails!!!Well for me the only maintenance that I do about my nails is that I cut them when they grow long.That's about it as far as my nails are concerned.No nail bars for me and neither nail polishes.My wife though has nail polish on her nails.But for the most part this is about much we do with our nails.

My nails used to be a part of who I was, just do not have so much time these days! Mind you I have a daughter now and so I need to start taking care of mine again so that I can show her how to take care of hers when the time comes! I have never been to a bar though.

I cut them. Trying to play guitar with nails is hell. And it hurts. I sometimes paint them black, even though they're so short it's not really worth it. I don't have any nail past the edge of my fingers...
@gemini_rose (16264)

Gosh them are short nails then! A little bit of clear nail varnish would make them look OK.

I tend to just whiten the tip and finish them off with a clear shiny polish, the result is alot neater and healthier looking than chipped and faded coloured polish. However sometimes if my nails are in bad condition then I will paint them, usually black or a very bold colour, illuminous pinks and oranges are all the rage with teenagers at the minute. I dont spend much time manicuring, I file my nails while watching tv, but one thing ive learnt is that the key to long haelthy nails is paying careful attention to your cuticles. I alway buy cuticle remover ens from Avon and theyre great :) I use Avons Night Dew on my nails aswell and I have really noticed a difference since I began using it. Ive never been to a nail bar before but I can imagine them being really nice. I might book in for a manicure next week :)

I am lucky in that I do not have too much trouble with the cuticles, but I know avon have some great products so I might try that one, thanks.

There was a time when I had quite a collection of nail polishes. The colors ranged from deep red to purple or blue. My nails were long and well kept. As I sit and admire my long nails now I know that I will soon need to cut them back. Long nails in my line of work are frowned upon. But, until the time when I need to get out those clippers I sit and admire them. I do not polish them as I prefer to have them as they are. The polish would flake off too soon after applying. Not worth the effort. I do occasionally polish them with clear polish to add shine to them.

Hi there gemini, I actually don't manicure..I cut them every week and clean but not applying any color on it...If ever I need to attend special occasion, I will just use colorless to enhance a little bit..I admire women who can do it but for me, my nails will die easily if I will put some colors! Not very healthy! So, I just love to be in natural~

I don't know of many moms with nice nails, unless they have the money to go to a salon. Mine are typically left to their own devices, but once in a great while I will file and paint them. It's not often though.

I used to be into all that jazz ,the cuticle remover and the colour sainig coat to be put on first tc then I used to do a base coat and then a good top coat.But that being said it was years ago and now they are just nails,no more no less,with broken bits and chapped cuticles ,but if anyones worried it shud be me and im definately not.

Nails and getting manicured and pampered is my thing. However, it use dto be every week, but no wit has gone to every two weeks, since my schedule is a little more hectic now. I always get a pedicure which is my favorite and on my toes I usually get a french manicure, and if not a french then I get the same as my nail polish since I have a pet peeve about matching them. My nails are another story, since when I was younger I always had false tips on, but as I got older I just got my natiral nail wrapped, which looked like tips, but were actually my own nails. Now, I find that I don't have the time or patience to go and get them done, so I just maintain my own, shorter nails with a manicure from the salon. I very rarely, if ever do my own manicure and pedicure, unless I am in desperate need and cannot get to the salon. I do not own many polishes myself, since I really do not do my own nails often, but I always have, a nail file, clipper, cuticle cutter and clear polish on hand.
