It's true that people tend to put on weight when they stop smoking, but I don't think it's true that starting to smoke will help you to lose weight. I wouldn't risk it anyway as smoking is too dangerous for your health. You risk getting lung disease, lung cancer and other types of cancer too. It would be silly to jeopardise your health and maybe your life just because you heard somewhere that it might help to reduce your appetite a bit.

It's a shame that your friend's resorted to smoking to lose weight. Even if she only smokes at lunchtime she's still a smoker because she smokes, no matter what she tells herself!! Yes, you're right, cancer sadly does affect plenty of people and many of those people don't smoke, but the fact is that if you do smoke, your chances of getting lung cancer and certain other types of cancer are much much higher than if you don't smoke at all.

I never heard of that practise. It's kind of a convoluted idea to me. In my opinion it would be better to do something else to lose weight. Like maybe drinking water before eating would suppress an appetite. Or right after eating if the dieter made it a habit of brushing their teeth it may help in not wanting to eat more. Or coming up with another idea instead of eating such as being more active in order to change their lifestyle. But, anyway to respond to your discussion I think this is false. Someone probably came up with the notion, but I think it's not an answer to the problem. Just my opinion. Take care.

I heard of this too. However, I do not think it's true. I've seen many plump people smoking. If it really helps, why are they still plump? To lose weight depends on self discipline and will power. I still think exercising and eating a well balanced diet are the best ways to lose weight.

I've heard that from my officemates before. I worked in a call center for 4 years before my stint here in Malaysia so it's normal to see people going for a smoke before lunch. It's weird and I'm not recommending it as a way of dieting.

It will be foolish to diet while indulging in smoking. After all why do you diet at all? To keep your self healthy, look smart, sexy, by smoking you will cut short all of your aspiring aspects. Better have one or two glass of plain water, it will make you eat less in quantity and remember always that you must leave the table hungry. It is old adage.

I have always heard that smoking curbs your appetite and I used to believe it. It does not do that for me though. I can smoke like a freight train and still have a big appetite. I have actually gained weight recently even though I do smoke. It does curb some cravings sometimes though.

I have never heard of this before.. I would think that smoking would be not even be considered to be a part of one's diet at all. I would not fall for this, if I were you..
