Dismissal of Student Loan

I received in the mail Friday 6 checks from the IRS. 4 of them were in my name only and the other 2 were in my husbands and my name. When I saw the one's in my name only, it clicked in my head that my student loan had been dropped! I was dancing all the way down the street to my new home. lol (Checks were sent to my old address and I still have the key for the mail box for this reason) I then received a letter from the Dept. of Edu telling me that they found that I was fasely certified to receive the loan from them and to go to that school, so they dropped my loan, I am no longer responsible for that loan!! YAY!!!!! They also included an amount that I am to receive from them and it is $30 short of $3000!!!! I just about fell out when I read this. lol We are still waiting on a few more checks to come in. So those of you who have student loans and if you did not have a GED or High School Diploma or if the school closed while you were still attending school, get the form online and send it in, it SURELY can't HURT!!! I feel like we have been blessed. We found a new home and we are all moved in and are enjoying it! We still have unpacking to do, but that's ok. lol I was so sore after we moved, I didn't want to do a thing! lol Then almost a week later, we get the news that my loan was dropped! Things couldn't be better and if they can, I'm ready for any other good things to come our way! ~Icy~

Congratulations! I'm only in my first year of university, in Britain, and I'm not looking forward to when I have to start paying the loan off. But I'm happy at least it's going well for someone out there!

Thanks!! We just spent a bit on getting stuff for the house. Thing is we only have a few more things including the Grill and then we don't have to spend any more. lol We don't go on vacation or anything like that. Our dog will not forgive us if we went somewhere and left him. lol ~Icy~

Wow, you sure are lucky. I have a humongous student loan that really burdens me and will continue to do so until I almost retire. But, I don't fall under the qualifications to get it dropped, so I gotta keep paying it. I think it's great for those people who had their schools closed while they were attending them and got stuck with the bills. That just wasn't fair.

Thank you Darlene. I thought it was unfair too. I have told everyone I know if they fit the qualifications to try for a dismissal. Can't hurt to try. Sorry about your loan taking so long to pay off. My loan was for $7,000 and it had $5,000 in interest withing 20 years! That's too much interest. lol I know there is some kind of way you can call and talk to them about your payments and it holds the interest from piling up, but I don't know what it's called. You can always check into it. ~Icy~
