I can't burn anything as that would set off the smoke alarm! I don't use room fresheners as they release chemicals into the air and I don't want to breathe them in. I do like pot pourri, and natural oils can be used to freshen them, but mostly I rely on having my windows open and a nice fresh breeze. I don't keep anything inside my apartment which will smell bad.

Maybe you can wash out the appliances with baking soda, that might help with the odor. Or you can leave an opened box of baking soda inside. You can also put some charcoal in there, that is supposed to absorb odors.

I have oders from the washing machine and dishwasher. The diswasher is broke completely and the washing machine leaves an ador and the landlady will not replace them or get them fixed.Maybe the flameless candles will not make your smoke detecter go off?

I go through spells of using different types of smell goods for my home. But my preference would probably be using essential oils. The most recent thing I have heard about candles is that most wicks are made out of lead, thus causing lead poisoning amongst the people that burn candles.

I love candles. I can't be around insense as it is too strong and I have asthma. I have those plug in flower things too that I like.

I don't burn anything with a flame as I am afraid of my kids or my kitties knocking them down and setting the house on fire. I like to use Febreze and flameless candles and those scented things you can plug into the wall.

I like to use... a good cleaning, lol. I can't stand the oils, potpourries, incense, candles, etc. That stuff makes me nauseous. A good cleaning and airing keeps the house smelling good;)

candles - photo of set of candles
Hi my friend, Since I have two smokers in our house, I always try to make the house smell good. I have a ton of scented candles that I love to burn. (I used to make and sell them so I still have quite a few around) I have gel air fresheners in most rooms and then I always have a spray room freshener for the bathroom. I've tried insense cones and sticks, I don't know why but they make my nose stuffed up and I sneeze. I like the smell of them though. Happy MyLotting, Char

I prefer candles as I hate putting sprays with aerosol into the atmosphere. I have this put, that you plug in, that melts scented wax. The problem is, after a while, your nose gets used to the scent. I don't prefer incense. I feel it's a bit heavy.

I love to make the house smell nice but never use candles or and plug=in sort of things like that. All the perfumes in those are supposedly toxic to inhale. I usually simmer things on the stove like cinnamon sticks or citrus peels. I just set the time for an hour, to remind my self to check the water level in the pan and just add more water when it needs it.

Ive done them all, but just this morning I decided not to do incense any more. They leave a smoky smell afterwards. Candles are good also, but not enough. I like the smell of clean so often times its just lemony. During the holidays I buy pine cones that smell like cinnamon, and put them in different places. When I was little my mom burned potpourri on the stove, I like that too. I think now, oils may be the best thing. Im going to try some, and see.

I use a plug in oil thing that I got from Bath and Body works, I plugged it in like 2 months ago and only 1/3 of it is gone which is great!!! The smell is a wee bit strong but I put it in my most smelly place.

I burn candles a lot, but also have some sort of plug in air freshener in each room of the house. We have cats, so it can get kind of smelly if we don't have wall plugs in the cat room (which is also our home office).

I don't burn anything scented. I used to work for a cleaning and restoration company. We cleaned up after fire and smoke damage. I saw way too many fires started from candles, insense, etc. Fire from a candle can get out of hand even when it is being attended to. I like using the plug ins, sprays, potpourri etc.

I bake or make toffee to make the house smell good, but on days that I don't do that I use air freshener. I will sometimes burn a candle, but not very much anymore.

I used to have two or three candles in every room. Even with one cat, I was still able to do that. Then we got a 6 month old kitten who changed everything. She's about 2 now, but she still gets into such mischief. I'll light candles in the kitchen where I keep my computer, but they have to be on the stove where she can't get to them. I'll also use potpourri on the stove. I have a few smell good thingies that you plug into the electrical wall sockets. And I use Fabreeze and other air fresheners.

I have tried different things. It is good to have a fresh smelling house, that is for sure. I like to burn candles, especially the ones with a nice scent. Of course I do use air fresheners and I like using disinfecting sprays just too keep things a little cleaner feeling. Sometimes you can also sprinkle carpet powder on your floor or sachets that you can hang in a closet for a fresh scent.
