Actually Germany had already invaded Poland which started a War in Europe. The United States didn't join the War until Japan bombed Pearl Harbor. So there was already a war we decided to join the Allies to help fight the Axis power.

Good ole Hitler declared war on the US. Simply put He did start the war with us.

I think Bertman is right.. First there was the conflict between Germany and Poland. Finally Germany, after already having invaded several other european countries, received the ultimatum from America that if they would invade Poland they would go into war with the americans. Stupid as they were, Germany invaded Poland and so the war was on..
The attack on pearl harbor was a couple of years later I think..
I'm not sure if I'm right, but I think this is how it went.

Hitler declared war on the US, so yes, the Germans did start that whole mess. I still don't know why the Japanese bombed pearl harbor.
