well thalassaemia is a haemoglobinopathy where there is a reduction in the production of globin chain due to hereditary problem in the coding gene sequence. it also known as disease of Mediterranean country. this is of mainlt two types 1. alpha thalassaemia 2. beta thalassaemia actually there is mutation or deletion of a code in either alpha gene in chromosome 16 or beta gene in chromosome 11 . in this disease there is normally structured haemoglobins but production is greatly reduced. as there are two genes for each alpha and beta there may be alpha and beta thalassaemia minor (only one gene affected) or alpha and beta thalassaemia major(both gene are affected). this disease actually produce a congenital haemolytic anaemia . it is the major gist of thalassaemia

If you haven't already done it the best thing for you to do is a search on thalassemia on the net. You will come up with more information than you will need. Good luck on the case study.
