I did not study computer lesson but I had formal schooling in typing so when I had to work on computer as demanded by my job, I did not have hard time learning it. Just some simple instructions from my Boss and I quickly learn the basics of computer. Now, I would say I am a computer expert. Ha!Ha!ha! How about you?

I just leaned the basic Word, Excel and power point in an institute run by one of my friends for about fifteen days .I think that I have taken a wise decision in doing so. Because the word and excel practice are very helpful in my business nowadays. I personally advice everyone who owns a computer to learn the basic things in computer at least for a month which will be beneficial throughout the life time.

Hi, yes I did have some formal lessons on computer, BUT it is AFTER I learned so much about the computer. When my mom first bought a computer for an organization, so a computer expert uses it. I just watch him do this and that on the computer. and when I have a chance I would experiment on it. that's how I learned first. then in school, it was easier for me because I already have lots of knowledge. take care

Yes, it is so easy to learn all by yourself. I know a lot of people who learned computer without formal schooling and they even became experts. It is a big help if you have your own computer so you could really concentrate. Thanks for sharing!

Well, I worked at a school and the computer lady quit. So, they put me in the computer lab. I knew absolutely nothing about computers! The lady had written out everything step by step and I followed that. I did know how to type from taking a class in Jr. High school. I learned and have been a computer geek ever since. I am 66 years old now and am still learning! That just proves anyone can learn new tricks!

Yes, usually the kids are the computer wizards because they are very diligent in learning the ins and outs of computer. But it is nice to know that you learn computer all by yourself. You just have to enhance it to be more productive.

My computer training wasn't formal either. I popped open a box, pulled out my computer, hooked it up, and began to surf the web. That was back in 1997 and I've been burning up the fiber optics ever sense. Did I ever make bloopers? Yup, made some big ones. Now though, I call myself 'moderate'.

When I first started using a computer in 1989, I knew nothing. I took a job with a communication company in the inventory department and was asked if I could use a 10 key calculator. I lied and said yes. My boss knew I was lying but like me anyway, so she sent me home with a calculator and told me to get a phone book and practice, practice, practice. I did and when given a test to see if a scanner would be better than keying everything by hand, I was faster than the scanner. I have since taken a basic class on computers and have learned a lot of what I know through trial and error. Donna

I learned the basics at school: typing, basic Access and Powerpoint and extended Word and Excel. The rest I learned by doing it. With a good book to guide you through all the steps, you easily find what you need to do.

I did have a computer class in college. It's just to teach simple things like microsoft word , powerpoint , flash and so on.I didn't need it but it is compulsory to attend the class.Since I'm used to the programs that they teach,I used my spare time surfing the net - it wasn't so bad after all!!

There are lots of us who never get to apply our college course. It is not because we are not competitive but the opportunities never came as expected.Mine is an example.I earned from my skills during the early years of my practice but the chances of success is very slim especially during the economic slump. That is why I put up this CyberCafe which pushed me hard to learn computers ranging from the basics, programming, repair and administration.

That's very true! It's very practical to change your career path if you feel you could be more productive and well compensated by doing so! I admire you for having that discernment.

I learned Basic in the 80's by typing in programs in Ahoy magazine, a monthly magazine by Commodore. Then just kinda taught myself with Dos and SQL and others.

I never had computer classes or anything, I pretty much learned by doing. And I'm sure there are some things that I don't know about computers, but I know more than enough to get me through everything I want/need to do, and otherwise I learn pretty quick. As far as typing, I'm also self taught in that area as well. I think I learned from my time on message boards, instant messengers, etc. Although, my last semester in college I took an online microsoft office class, and I actually really enjoyed learning excel and access. I already had experience with the other programs.

I'm lucky my employers gave me computer-related trainings since I'll be working with it most of the time. I remember having BASIC lessons in my elementary days and dabbled with computer typing in college when I had to do lots of reports. Computer expert or not, I definitely am a user.
