http://www.pch.gc.ca/PROGS/CPSC-CCSP/JFA-HA/canada_e.cfm Today is the celebration of Canada day, when Canada became a nation in 1867. There is the celebration of course, fireworks, parades, skits, concerts, all kinds of festivities going on. I once went and had a piece of Canada's birthday cake, made here in Montreal, a cake that was made to serve 2,000 people, Now that I am disabled, I do very little outdoor activities, do you stay home for your country's special day celebration or do you go out and do special things that are going on in your area?

Well I guess you and I could share the same bench because all I ever get to do anymore is sit. I so badly wanted to go into town to be with my grandchildren to watch the parade today but I have been fighting micrane headache for four days now. I'm still hurting. I don't get around well at all anymore. Having a heart attack, needing both knees replaced, asthma, high blood pressure and lower back and bone desease takes care of any plans you may have wanted to arrange, but I just keep plugging along.

Yeah I know it's the same way here. I often think what do they think we're all 23 years old with bodies of steel. The disabled people are getting treated worse as each day passes. Just my opinion by what I see here. We like to take part in events too.

We dont really have special days like USA in UK, its one thing I always love about your Country, you celebrate so much. We have local fairs and things, but to be honest with you they are not all that up to much! I hope you manage to enjoy some of the celebrations that are going on though.

I forgot to wish you a Happy Canada Day. I bet that was something to be able to eat a piece of Canada's birthday cake. That would be something I would never forget, and I forget a lot of things. We stay home for our country's special day celebration. In our neighborhood, there should be some fireworks to see. My kids has a few that's safe to set off, so they can enjoy the special day. My youngest, made a 4th of July hat, which I think is cute, until she tried to put it on my head, . She really loves sparklers, so I got her a few. I keep a bucket of water near by to wet the fireworks down once they are done.

We usually drive downtown by the water and watch the fireworks show but last year it was called off due to bad weather and won't go this time to see the fireworks show because I am dog sitting my daughter's dogs. Happy Canada Day!! I wish you were able to go out and get more cake this time.

I am so sorry that you are going to miss out on the celebration.. But again, you did get a piece of that huge 2000 piece cake and now have bragging rights about that.. We do very little normally but since my son and his wife have had to move back in with us, we will have to at least have a picnic to celebrate the 4th.. Hope you have a great day anyway..

hey that sounds great! i live in a large city in ontario and we have a large steel mill that puts on a big celebration for their staff (we are not staff, but my dad volunteers there and belongs to their fishing club, so we get in free). they had games and stuff for the kids to do and put on this massive fire works display - it was awesome! (there was about 4,000 people there last night - but it was so worth it!)

Our "big" day is coming up, July 4th which is Åmerica's celebration from breaking away and Independence from English rule in 1776. July 4th was never a big day to celebrate in my family...most of the time just stayed home...the only real memorable time was back in 1976 the bi-centennial of our country's founding. Both my mother and grandmother worked for banker's trust and we had reservations to be at one of the offices (nice and air conditioned) at Banker's Trust Plaza to watch the Op Sail festivities....the Plaza was later renamed Duestche Bank Building and Duestche Bank took over Banker's Trust...the building by the way was the very same building later condemned after the 9/11 incident as it was right next door to the World Trade Center. In some photos of mine that I took of the ships that went by that day in 1976 you can see the shadows of the twin towers...kind of eerie now when you think of it

yes it does sound eerie, 1976 was the Year of the montreal olympics, and also the year my son was born. I also got married in 1976.

I had the opportunity to be in Canada during Canada Day years ago. It was just a little town, can't remember the name of the place but it had a huge goose on the road near the highway. Got to see the fireworks there and then headed back into the States to see the fireworks here. I really like Cananda and have fond memories of my journeys there. This July 4th I am actually flying most of my kids out to CA with my sister. Talk about Independance Day! :-)

before 1867 Canada was owned by the British, it was not an independent country, confederation was the birth of the country under the first prime minister sir john a. macdonald. we had only 4 provinces back then, quebec, ontario, new brunswick, and nova scotia, and they all entered into confederation to form the new country of canada.

We use to see the fireworks at the fairgrounds when our daughter was young. Now she won't even be in town, so no special things planned. I may watch the fireworks on television on Friday. Its the 4th of July, which is a holiday in the United States. Some of the holidays we do still celebrate like Mother's Day. My husband and youngest daughter take me out for a meal and she gives me a gift. Also Father's Day where I pay the bill and daughter gives Bob a gift. Christmas is celebrated in this house and gifts are given on the 25th of December.
