and again I have the proof I needed to show that YES I am legally deaf so that I could take the proof to the organization that said could and would help me get A new hearing aid, meaning that they could only pay for one and if I needed two then there's another orgainzation that can help me with the other. Hubby and I went to the office of this organization and come to find out, the type of hearing aid(s) I need, they can't buy for me. The kind I need is called bio-cross which means that since I'm deaf in my left ear, the aid in that ear will transfer the sounds to the right aid through a wire so essentually it's two hearing aids connected by a wire, I know for I had that before and they got ran over by mistake We even tried to see if they'd pay for the one and see if the other organization would pay for the other or go half and half and the answer was still no. Then she proceeded to tell hubby and I about this OTHER organization but there's a $100. processing fee just to fill out the application and that's when I broke down and cried my heart out. I couldn't stop crying no matter how hard I tried! How embarassing!! But I've reached the end of my damned rope!! Finally she decides she's going to email someone, I guess her boss, to see if they can override this and get the hearing aids for me and if not then there's yet another organization that can and will help and there's no processing fee which is called Independent Living. She's going to call them on Monday to get all the details. THEN.... believe it or not, she's giving me a phone that has a regular reciever as well as a text like a TDD type of phone!! AND a weather, phone, alarm clock alert which is a little box like thing and a cord with this round piece that I'm to put under my pillow or between my mattress and box springs and it vibrates when something goes off such as my phone or alarm on the clock or if there's an important weather report that I should know about!! AND a light for my door bell AND get this one!! She's going to check about getting me a HEARING DOG!! I about fell out of my chair!! This dog can go anywhere I go just like a sight dog!! Oh my gosh I'd be one happy happy gal to have one!! They only pay a part of the cost and we're to pay the rest!! Hubby said we'll figure out a way to pay for it one way or another for she does need one. I'm shocked!! Why didn't she tell us about this Independent Living to begin with? And why couldn't this organization pay for my hearing aids but yet give me all these other things? Makes no sense but I'm taking all that I can for I sure as heck need it!! My hearing has gotten so much worse over the past 20 some years that there isn't much left to it. I can hear the high notes but none of the low and I used to be able to hear the birds which I dearly love!! But now it's even faint which has me scared to death. I mean, I knew it was going to happen but one can NEVER be ready. Once a person hears then it's going and going, it's pretty darned scary!! BUT the upside is, I've found a way to get the things I need so badly!! So because of being so exhausted from dealing with all I've had to deal with and STILL dealing with, then this bad news then the good news.... and well another bad news that I haven't told you yet has gotten me so worn down that I can't really jump for joy because I'm worn out to do anything but cry. Ok, what is the other bad news? Mom went to the doctor again today and come to find out, when she fell in the bathroom on top of her walker, she broke a rib. Friends.... I'm just a superwoman!! I can handle that TOO!!

Hey Superwomen, You needed the cry, it helped too. Look at what you are getting. Just hang in there, things have to get better. My mom fell in the bathroom a few weeks ago and broke a rib too. Not much they can do for broken ribs. I am happy that some things are looking up, now if things with your mom would start to improve. I know that your mom says no about a nursing home for therepy. Is she worried that she would get stuck there. Older folks are so scared of being sent to a nursing home. Being an in patient at one for therepy is different. Its too bad she won't agree, it sounds like she needs it. Good luck hun with everything.

Superwoman, huh? I don't feel like one right now Polly, let me tell ya. I'm so worn down that it's gotten me down in the gutter. I want to be happy but I'm too worn out to be. Maybe tomorrow or even Monday will be a better day. I just need some rest and a good cry. I mean a good good screaming cry but it's not going to happen. I have post manic stress disorder which means, I can't cry until after the affect. I go into this numb mode and basically don't feel anything so I can be strong enough to take on what I must take on and then when it's all done and over with, I break down and cry for days. I hate it but it's a disorder that I have and nothing I can do about it but accept it for what it is. As long as I KNOW what it is then I can deal with it although hating it, I deal with it. I'm very very grateful for what I'm getting and am very shocked silly!! I didn't expect any of those things but here they come!! YES!!!! I think I'm still in shock too.... WHAT?? NO WAY?? REALLY?? LOL As for my mom, she regrets now for not going into a nursing home for her rehab. She's home now so no use in worrying over spilled milk. What's done is done, I guess. I don't think she can go in now.... I may be wrong about that but I don't think she can but I'll ask her nurse the next time I see her. Thanks Polly

I've been legally deaf since birth as well. My brother is legally blind due to some degerative disease. He told mom one time that he thought of how she must feel to have a blind son and a deaf daughter. She told him not good of course! Thanks for your prayers!

Take what they will give. It is amazing what you can get. I know we were trying to get something for my son. Everyone could give us something different, except for what we were after. I hope that you can get what you need and some extras.

It is strange isn't it? I mean, it's not like I'm after a toy or anything that's not needed but yet it's still unreachable. BUT I don't want to sound ungrateful for I'm not ungrateful at all, quite the contrary! lol But that I need hearing aids to hear on a daily and everywhere basis, not just at home. This lady seems to think that this other organization "Independant living" will be able to help us. I pray she's right.

They probably have some kind of hierarchy of services they can get funding for, and different resources. At least she did not have a heart as hard as a stone, and not help you at all. I sure hope you can get the dog, it would be a perfect match. I know someone who has a shihtzu hearing dog. That would not be so expensive to feed as a Labrador retriever or some other big dog. I hope your good news helps you cope with the hard stuff like your mom breaking her rib. Your hubby sounds pretty understanding about the dog.

Well that's all sorta good news. Why do you have to be so darn crazy worn out and at the end of your rope before people get up and do their job and make things right for you. If you had just said "Oh, ok then amd walked out, you still wouldn't have those things' I'm coming to believe that unless you jump up and down and make a song and dance about things then you go without...what's that saying..."a squeaky wheel gets the attention. I'm really pleased for you lovely lady.
