I was wondering if anyone has had any experience wih stock photography sites. I have searched and found some that seem reputable but I don't know. Has anyone had a good experience with a stock photography site. If so could you please post here with the name of the company or link, or send me a message. I would really appreciate it.

I have applied and sent work to at least one or two, but haven't had anything get accepted. People who I know are successful with stock photography sites are those who can afford and have room for professional photography equipment, programs, software, etc. I just don't have the money or the room to store any of that stuff. Stock photography businesses look for a very specific type of photography that most people don't do. It doesn't mean that most people aren't good photographers, there are a lot of photographers who are great who would get rejected from those sites. It's just that they want things in a very specific way.

You don't need professional equipment to be successful in stock! When I first started selling stock, the only camera I had was a cheap point and shoot digital camera. Within a year, I had earned enough from selling my photos on stock websites to buy myself a DSLR camera. I've also used my stock earnings to buy more photography equipment.

Well, then, I guess I must be the world's worst photographer, then, because they have rejected tons of my photos, some of which have been in shows and self-published. And, I know of a lot of other people who have won awards who have gotten all of their photos rejected from stock agencies, too. So, we must all be pretty bad.

Sorry you haven't had much luck. I think it might just have to do with what they are looking for at the time too. I hope I can make out okay with a company.

I've been selling photos on BigStockPhoto for over 2 years now. I've found they'll accept photos that other stock photography places will not. I don't have many photos up, but I've made over $200 now. Here's my referral link if you want to use it, please don't feel obligated though: http://www.bigstockphoto.com/?refid=gyD1FGl9wP

They pay by PayPal as soon as you reach $30 if you request payment (you can also choose to wait until you get more money built up). Or if you like being paid by check, they'll pay by check once you reach $50 if you request to be paid by check. It usually only takes a day to get paid once you request payment, they're really good with that.

Thanks for the link. I will check it out soon. I would love to start getting my photo's up to start making some money. How often do they pay?

I've never really used a site design specifically for stock. Whenever I need a stock image I find it on deviantART.com, the only thing is that the owner of the image makes the usage rules, and some people only allow their photo to be used on deviantART itself.

I have seen a lot of publications that I have been seeing say that their images were provided by a stock photography provider. I just don't want to get jipped. I will check the site you said.

I've been selling stock photography for years and years. The site I have had the most success from is http://submit.shutterstock.com/?ref=2197 I make thousands of dollars every year from that site. I have some other reputable stock website links listed on my website http://www.lindsaydean.com/sellstock.html but I haven't earned nearly as much on those as I have from the first site I listed.

Thanks so much for the links. I am going to check them out. Do you make something from having others sign up under you? I am hoping to get some pictures submitted by the end of the month. That's my goal at least.
