http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20080709/wl_asia_afp/chinacanadacrimemodel A young up and coming Canadian model, Diana O'Brien of British Columbia, was found murdered in her Shanghai apartment. She was trying to get an international career going, she already had some success in Milan Italy and she then took a job with a Chinese modeling agency who had her dancing in bars, she was supposed to stay in shanghai for 3 months but hated it, she wanted to come home in one month but got murdered after only two weeks. Do you think taking a modeling job in foreign countries is really dangerous, or is this just an isolated case, would you take a modeling job in a foreign country if you wanted that to be your career?

Well not if I was forced to dance in bars what kind of carrer move would that be? I could dance in bars in America or such and get paid alot more for it then in international foreign countries. I havne't heard of any other cases of models being murdered but then I am not that much in touch with the outside world besides with my computer and occasionally a television, so it can be isolated or not. I would model in other places but I would make sure that I didn't do or agree to do anything I wasn't comfortable doing. And if I was forced to I would be out of there faster then mighty mouse.

With any job you do there are risks involved and I think this is not something that's limited to modeling. If you meet the wrong people, like someone stated before, there is no way of running from it. When I get my diploma I'll work with children and parents and you have to tell them you take their child because of neglect or abuse and it's not coming home or something similiar a parent can freak too because what you are doing is very threatening and we are talking parents and kids here; it's not easy. There can be serious injuries as it wouldn't be the first time parents attack a social worker; so I guess there is a chance in every job.

there are risks with most jobs it is true, but some are avoidable some are not but in any job, one must always exercise the right amount of caution that it takes for that particular job. thanks for you great response!

the danger is high for me. Since they are attractive and beautiful and we can't den a lot of men will be interested in anything...money or body! You know! SO, if someone is really interested about pursuing a career in foreign Countries, for me it will be safer to live with co-model or worker whom they can trust! I will take a risk if I am in the situation but I have to know that the place is very safe for me...I have to evaluate and re evaluate it!

ohhh..I see! it's always risky I guess when we are new to the place even if we are just in a place where we use to grow,we can't even assure a 100% safety!

I think it can be dangerous for young American women in other countries. So sad for this young girl to be gone before she started in life. xoxoxoxoxo

The way young women are being exploited these days, makes this a dangerous situation. There's alot of young girls that think this lifetyle is glamarous, but they dont know the dark side, and they are usually the ones that fall victim. Unfortunatly there's people who will take advantage of a young girls dream of being a model. If this were my dream i would take a job in a foreign country, but i would educate myself about the agency, and never would i go alone. I dont think that this is an isolated incident, it's just that this one made international news, because she happened to be a foreigner.

yes it awful and you are right, it made news because it was a foreigner being killed in another country but she was canadian and even if she was killed here in canada it would have been news.

hmmm I guess modelling is like any thing else if you hang with the wrong people you could be in trouble, I guess one should check agencies out thoroughly as I guess there are people out there trying to exploit...

Sorry not me, as I hear to many reports of models being killed in other countries. Its dangerous out there with strange people staring at your beauty and could care less about you as a person. Some stalking you and won't let anyone else near you ever. Its not the life for me, as I'm not interested in skipping meals to look that skinny. I refuse to be in a business where females are always told to lose more weight.

I think your life can be put in danger if you put your safety in the hands of people you do not know, no matter what dream you are pursuing.
