my workmate chantelle didnt show up yesterday at work because she was on car accident that night with her friends... she send a text message to my boss that morning telling him that she cant work because of what happened... me and my boss was worried bout her, i texted her on my lunch break to make sure she's fine.. she said that she's ok and that shes laying on the couch having a rest coz that's what the doctor said... this morning when my other workmate cassie came, she mentioned to me that she saw chantelle yesterday all day at cairns central with a guy she was talking to the other day before the "car accident issue" happened. cassie tried to talked to her but she left in a hurry ... i was totally shocked!!! i cant believed that she would lied to us and made that story just because she dont like to work that day... its funny but annoying....because she didnt think that there are people who truly worried bout her condition how about you? have you ever try to do silly excuses if you dont want to work?

oh, jhoen, i will definitely not make this kind of excuses. i truly understand your feeling after you know the truth from your colleague. i can not imagine what your boss will be after he knows it. the honesty is quite important for one's image. only one time lieing maybe will bring you bad effect forever.

I have never made up a story that would make someone worry about me. But I do find myself making up excuses not to go to work, but then after I have made up the excuse and told my boss. Then I feel relieved and will go shopping or do something I enjoy. You can not just stay at the house on your day off unless your really sick. LOL!

You'd be amazed at the ridiculous (and false) excuses I have heard from employees. I even had one call in once that said her dog got hit by a UPS truck and she was so distraught she couldn't work. I tell anyone I hire that I appreciate that everyone has those days when they just want to knock off, and if that's the csae they should just call and tell me so instead of making up some crazy excuse. I commend people for their honesty and usually give them the day off if they are honest. If I think they are not being honest I require proof of their excuse before I allow them to return to work.

Now I won't pretend it makes sense but I know two people that have done this and not as an excuse but for real. My ex husband's dog was shot by our landlord for chasing cows and he didn't do nothing but sit and stare at pictures of that mutt for a week. My daughters ex boyfriends dog got hit buy a car and he didn't go to work for 3 days because of it. These morons are more attached to thier dogs then the people in thier lives, so as pathetic as it is it may have been a real excuse for them.

ME, i do excuses like I have headache , cold or i can't stand my whole body is aching, but truly i just have date...lol. But excuses like I had a car accident , OMG, no no no...i believe in karma, i don't want that to happen in real life. I hope she change her attitude.

Children calling parent's name - I think it is wrong for children to call their parents by their name.
I have never thought of doing such thing, not to talk of making an attempt. Therefore I think the right word for such act is "silly", but the truth is there are different kinds of people in the world. Some with high sense of responsibility while some low or none. If I were asked, I would describe it as an act of unfaithfullness I will urge you to advice your friend to try her best and be faithful in all she does cos it pays to be a faithfull person. Thanks friend

Yes, but nothing like that. I think that's really mean because your friends will worry about you and if they don't you need to find better friends. Usually, as I'm a writer, I could just say, "the muse is absent today". Of course when you do that you spend the next day catching up just so you don't get behind. So is it really worth it anyway? I've found it not to be. If I were you I would have a talk with your friend about how truly inappropriate her actions were.

I can honestly say that if I wanted a day off I requested it weeks ahead of time. And if I stayed home from work sick, it was because I was really sick. I have been off work over 2 months now, I injured my wrist on the job, and they put me on medical leave, and it is driving me crazy not being able to go to work. I now have another MRI coming up, I'm now seeing an orthopedic surgeon, and after the MRI, it will probably be surgery, so I'm looking at another 2 - 3 months off work. It's funny how many excuses people can come up with to take a day off, never thinking anyone will know the difference, I always figured that if you called off work and wasn't really sick or whatever, that someone would find out, and it could cost you your job at some places. By the way, I work my dream job, for the forestry, wildland firefighter, and we only work 9 months out of the year, so I'll be lucky if I get to work 2 - 3 months this year.

When my fourth child was born she was extremely ill alot. On occasion I would call in and use her health as an issue to take off work. I learned karma or maybe the laws of attraction very fast I used her three times and three times she ended up extremely ill and in the hospital during the shift I called in for. I never used her health as an excuse again. I don't think I would want to be in her shoes, when the boomerang comes back and bops her on the head

That is really unfair what she did because she made people worry about her as it was quite a serious thing that happened. If I didn't want to go into work then I would make an excuse like "I have a cold and don't want to pass it on" or "My car broke down and I can't get in any other way" or something that does not really play with peoples emotions.

hi jhoen. i think your officemate chantelle took it a tad bit too far with the excuse that she gave your office. i think a simple cold or fever would have suffice but no she had to say that she was involved in a vehicular accident just to skip work. lol!

that is ridiculous. why she gave a reason of that kind of nature? of course everybody will be worried. she can just say "i don't feel good" or "my dog is sick" but not that kind of car accident. she must think of other people too.

I can say not a smart move on her end to cry wolf when nothings really wrong for what if something does seriously happen noone is going to believe her. I hope she honestly get's a talking to by her boss and or fired for lying. I don't think this should be tolerated in the work place for it show irresponsability. If she was looking for some time off I think her best move would have put in the time for it rather than makeing up some wild hurendious story. I hope she had the fear put into her by you as her friend and whom ever else. Maybe she will realize that this isn't a game. I hope the best for her as far as her job employment goes. I have not done this kind of thing for I know what would happen and I have that fear of calling out anyways knowing my boss would just get mad coping an attitude.. The only 3 times I have ever called out was because of two times hurting the sciatic nerve in my back and the other was for the flu which all 3 times I had doctor's notes for it. I hope this whole situation works out for the better in the long run.

i believe everyone at one time feels like not going to work and i guess its normal. what i cant understand is why she had to lie she was sick and caused you to worry over her for no reason at all. i once lied that my car had broken down anly to meet my boss and he noticed my car was perfectly fine, i was so ashamed

That's pretty rotten. At my job, if I don't work, I don't get paid. I am living on a thin margin right now and if I lose any hours at all, it really impacts my pocketbook. I work even when I am very sick and can't even stand up straight or breathe right. I've only missed a few days of work and that's when I had to flu and a 103 degree fever. I could barely move much less assist people at a public service counter. So, these people who don't want to show up to work just because they don't feel like it really need to grow up.

hi jhoen! wow. that was some lie. didn't she feel any remorse from lying like that? and was she not scared that her lie might actually come true? we have some sort of belief that we should not lie about a sickness or an accident or something because it might actually happen. you would be inviting danger to yourself. but when i was in grade school and didn't know any better, i lied about a stomach ache just so my mother won't let me go to school. ^__^;; it never really came true but i got a lot of scolding from it and cried about it. but as much as i can, i don't lie about having an illness or being in an accident just to escape from work. not only it might come true but its kinda shameful since you are seeking pity from officemates and your boss. i rarely absent because i force myself to go to work even if i'm feeling lazy. but during those rare days, i just tell my officemates and my boss that i have something important to do.

Hello jHoEn16, If I don't feel like coming to work, I will find excuse but not the bad ones. I won't call and tell my superior that my grandmother is dying, or my mother is admitted to the hospital. I think that will be too much. Maybe, I will not come to office and take an emergency leave just because my son calls me 'mommy' for the first time! *laughs* Saying that you met with an accident and made all your colleagues worried about you is not a good thing to do. I just wonder how some people can just lying without thinking of the consequences of doing that.

I've had days where I was in a deep funk and just couldn't get myself together to go into work, but I have never outright lied about anything. And I sure wouldn't make up anything like a car accident, and then go out! Whenever I've been so depressed or however you want to term it, I've said that I didn't feel well and wasn't up to coming into work, with was the truth. Sometimes we all need what is now called a 'mental health day', and I've never abused it nor taken a day when I knew others were relying on me. Now having said that, I have an article I really need to finish writing today but I am just not in the mood. I need to pull out of it and get it done, though, as there is a deadline.

Whoa! What is up with her? Lol. I would make up excuses like I had a fever or I had ulcer if I don't feel like going to work but not something as serious as a car accident. Geez. Ya know what they say sometimes, when you lie about something like that it just might happen to you. It's like you're tempting fate.
