Did registration make anyone else feel dirty?

I just registered about five minutes ago, have NO idea what to expect from this site, but have to say it didn't make a great first impression. I strongly felt that I was being pigeonholed or groomed for future targetted advertising while I was selecting my "interests". But I went through it because I'm recently unemployed and going totally stir crazy... Let's hope it gets better?

Not really, once you realise the purpose of the tags is to just promote questions to you you might be interested in. I signed up here with a mailinator email, just in case, and there's been zero spam through it in a couple of weeks, so if they are using my interests to target me, they're obviously saving it for a mass attack all at once ;) It's no more invasive, I suspect, than entering your interests on Facebook or U-lik.

Poor thang! I was a little hesitant at first, too, but I've discovered this is a really fun site, and you can even make a few bucks if you're into that. I've had fabulous chats with people all over the world, and I spend more time on myLot now than I can really spare; I like it that much! Yes, it will get better!

Try unchecking a majority of the interests and look for people that are interesting and focus on their conversations. Ask to be their friend... As far as being unemployed check out monster, I have had two friends that recieved job offer that stem from their resumes being posted there. Also, linkedin is a good social networking, contacts site. What is your skillset?

I'm looking for a new job, but I'll be honest, I've been working for twelve years now, and this is my first unemployment-sponsored break! I've been in the non-profit sector, doing welfare to work and workforce enhancement programs, up until about six months ago when I became a recruiter for profit. I don't know, I think I'm going to take some time to figure myself, hoping to go to law school if I can find a feasible way to do it! Thanks for the advice! :-)

Not at all. I just signed up and went on my way. I had doubts about the payment at first. And now I find that Mylot really is worth it after all. Believe me this will all become very addictive if you think you can handle that, lol. But I hope your time on here is spent wisely and I hope you earn kudos points and everything. And I'll look forward to more conversations that you may post.
