$12,000 for a woman in India.

I am watching the Oprah Show. It's called "Wombs for Rent" As opposed to an American surrogate which costs $60-80,000. This is one solution for infertile couples. And the money can apparently transform a family life there. Right now there are 50 Indian women carrying international babies for infertile couples. How do you feel about this?

Well, I figure everyone comes out ahead. The Indian women get money that they need and the American people get a baby. If the women were forced or coherenced into it, this would be a different matter. However, I've never had a problem with American women acting as surrogates.. even with getting paid for it. So, I have no problem with the Indian women doing the same. Good for the goose is good for the gander, in my humble option.

I would not feel comfortable about it and this I am not saying because I am an Indian myself. Though the part about it changing a family here is true to some extent…at today’s conversion rates $10,000 is approx Rs. 400,000/- and that is quite a tidy sum. Call me selfish or conservative, I would not give my body to carry somebody else’s baby. First is definitely the risk part…since the money and the expectations are both huge, I would always be on tenterhooks, never relaxing, never be able to enjoy one moment with my family in those nine months. Secondly, I would develop an emotional bond with the unborn child and I would not like to torture myself mentally for the sake of money…I would look to other options of earning. Thirdly, comes the hospitalization part…I simply dislike being confined to a bed for days and that also for something which was completed inside me slowly and painfully over the months but would be taken away from me the instant it is ready!

From what I have been told by a online friend that lives in India the US dollar goes a lot farther in India. So, for us it is only $12,000, but in their currency it is really a much larger sum of money. I think that it really works out to be close to the same. I don't see anything wrong with it. Indian women are getting some money that may be much needed and there are more US couples who are able to afford to hire a surrogate.

I think theres nothing wrong with that. Its give and take relationship. The Indian women help American have babies and they could help the indian women financially too.Having a child is no longer a problem nowadays. There are many options to choose to have a baby.

Wow. I didnt know it costs that much for a surrogate mother. Im guessing that if you cannot have children, you better be rich or get a loan. I think it's great. If there is no one in America to do this then why not someone else. As long as these women are healthy and it is done legally then they have my vote. I think its great that these women are giving women who can not have children or couples that cannot have children a chance to be parents.

I think it is great because it helps the people out who want the baby and it also helps the lady out. Money means alot to people in different ways. I'm glad it will make a big difference in this ladies life.

I see nothing wrong with it. There are so many people out there who can't have children and if this is the way they wish their child to be brought into the world then that is their decision. I do think people should look into adoption too though. I mean, if I had the money, I would probably try to adopt. There are so many children out there who need a good family.
