The Most Expensive Steak in America

I was just reading an article about the most expensive steak in America. It is Wagyu beef. Wagyu is actually a breed of cattle that are raised in Japan and are highly valued for their high quality beef. Some of them are being bred in the United States in New Mexico and it is said that Wagyu beef is particularly delicious due to the fact that their meat is more finely marbled with fat than any other breed of cattle. They say it is best to cook this beef only to the point of medium rare because if it is cooked past that point then the meat gets tough because the marled fat is cooked away.
Anyhow these steaks are about $70 for a six ounce steak and about $100 for the 12 ounce steak. That is just outrageous! I wonder if it is really worth the price. And that price is just for the steak, not for the other stuff that comes with it. I definately cannot afford to eat this, but I was wondering if anyone here has had it.

I heard that! Like I said, I am going to splurge this week and get those T-Bones for $5.97 a pound. It may not be Wagyu or Kobe beef but it is still good tasting and still is beef!
Aw man, now you mentioned Texas Roadhouse I'm gonna have to make a trip there.
Thanks alot!!

It doesnt sound like it would be on my must have list. I am not super fond of steak and who can really afford it now. There is a store neear me that might have affordable steaks. I should check out how much the steaks are there. I found some at Target that were not terribly expensive and they were delcious. Wagyu beef I'll remember that name.

I don't have steak that often, but definitely not this expensive when I do!!
They have T-Bone steaks on sale this week at my store for $5.97 a pound so I think I will splurge and make steaks this week. I love steak! That's right, I said splurge - $5.97 a pound is still pretty expensive on my budget. But I just really love steak!

I have not had it, and at those prices, I will not. I have found a cut of steak that is very tender and is moderately priced, and I usually choose to buy it. It is called a Flat Iron steak. It is actually a shoulder cut, but the way it is done it always cooks up tender and delicious. I pay anywhere from $3.99 to $4.99 per pound and there is no bone or anything to trim off. I cook it in the George Foreman grill.

I don't mind if they attempt to improve the quality of the food we eat, provided they do it in a safe and humane way. But, they are doing this to cater to the wealthy while the poor can't afford even the cheapest cuts of meat. It's an obscene thing to sell steak for over $140/lb while people are going hungry around the world - including our own country. So, no, I haven't tried it. If it were a more reasonable price - maybe. I haven't even tried buffalo yet and that IS a more reasonable price.

I have never heard of this. I have heard of Kobe beef, but not this. I wonder if the price has gone up now since everything else has gone up. It must be absolutely delicious to cost this much!

neither would I
