In the 60's I was on the west coast just traveling where the wind blew me
I was 'finding myself'...What did I know..I was in my teens!
I had hooked up with a group of artsy types. We were in Mexico painting murels..
when we decided to go see the pyramids outside Mexico City. I was doing alot of
organic drugs back then so some things are hazey. One night we had a fire
and sat drinking tiqula. I had met a 17 year old girl a couple of months before.
Her name was Orwella named after her mother's great grand dad's last name Orwell.
We all called her Wellinski or Wella or Lala.
She was so kind and beautiful in body and spirit
Everyone loved her and wished to be like her..
We hit it off like sisters. The next morning I woke up
roasting in the sun but Wella wasn't there and we didn't hook up with her again
before we headed to California. I always thought about her for time to time.
In 1976 when I was in San Pedro getting ready to graduate HS at San Pedro High I
was invited to a grad party given to another adult grad. At the party I ran into
Picasso( his nick name)one of my travel buddies from the Mexico 60's days.
He told me that he had met Well's brother and that Wella was found dead in Mexico
back when we were all there about a week after we left Mexico.
He had few details but he did know some of the awful death..she had been
murdered and raped possibly by someone that partied or traveled with us.
To this day I rack my brain about all those that we spent time with and come up with
no answers except it made me more scared for my kids!
I think I dodged the bullet! RIP Lala

I think we all lived on the edge in the early '60s. I spent a lot of time in Mexico at that time and didn't have much of a problem. In '65 I moved to San Fransisco (22 Haight street :) in the district. There is also a large chunk of that decade that is still rather fuzzy for me.

Hi raydene! Oh that is so horrible and sad! I guess, it will be shocking to anyone who will learn about their friends who had such horrible deaths. I hope and pray that somehow Lala is now at peace and happy in the other world despite of her terrible fate in this world.
Take care and God Bless!

What a sad story and for it to be so close to home for you..thinking of the what if's...makes you wonder what actually happened and who of your friends there may be guilty?
Peace and Love to you!.. Lala..Hope your trauma wasn't.Peace

Sometimes I don't like when my mother asks me about who is going to be with me when I'm out of home... Very important is the fact to know WHO is with you in the world outside!

RIP Lala, he 60's was an exciting time but also a dangerous time. My late hubby was 20 yrs. old in 1960, he spent his whole 20's in that decade. Sometimes I feel I missed out on so much. But then I read stories like this and think maybe I didn't miss out. Like you, you dodged the bullet. I still would have loved to experience the 60's and be in my 20's. I am glad that you dodged the bullet and your here.

When I think back on some of the really stupid decisions and chances I took when I was young I realized that some guardian angel must have been watching over me.
