Do you put your clothes in first and then add your laundry soaps on top of the clothes? Or do you start the washer add the soap and allow the water to begin to fill and then add your clothes? I do the latter. This is a big debate in our house, and I just wondered what you all did.

I toss in the clothes and add the detergent; that is the way I like to do it. However, I don't think there is any real difference; it just comes down to a matter of preference.

Yeah I think it is prefernce as well. Or how we were taught. Thanks for responding.

I add my clothes, start the water, and add the soap as it's filling. I add the clothes first, so that, when the water 'shrinks' things up, I can add more clothes and run a full load. I always end up making a mess if I add clothes after the drum has completely filled.

That is what I do. As I dump the liquid in I use the water coming out to clean out the cup. It keeps it cleaner I think.

Forgot to add that one of my reasons for adding the soap as it's filling is so that I can wash the liquid detergent out of the cup.

I usually put in the soap, start the water, and then add the clothes while it fills. I don't have any particular reason for doing it this way though, it's just the way I've always done it. I doubt it makes any difference at all though, since it all swirls together the same once the agitator starts up.

I only use liquid soap, so I've never had that problem. I've had people tell me that the powdered soap can clump up in the drains, too, and make the machine drain slower or back up the pipes. I don't know how true that is, but I'll stick with the liquid soap anyway.

I have found if you use powdered soap (which I hardly ever buy) if you add it last it makes things clumpy. So I have always done the soap first. Just my preference.

I usually start my water in my washer and then start adding my clothes in there and my laundry detergent. I hate to dump my laundry detergent on my clothes before running the water in my washer. It doesn't tend to mix and soap up very good when we do that.

That is what I have always thought as well. Thanks for posting and have a great day.

Most times, I prefer to fill up the machine with water and then add the soap, that way it can mix around and not cling to the clothes!

Yeah, that is a good idea. Thanks for posting.

Our new washing machine has a separate slot up top to put the soap in. I still put the close in though before I put the soap in but I like the new washer because there is no more of that letting the water run for a but and then adding the soap.

I put a little clothes in to cover the bottom of the tub, then I put in my soap, then finish filling up with clothes, then I start it up with the water.

I like the new ones that have a seperate slot. Those are very nice. I would love to have one like that.
