Will you miss your dog/cat when it dies like a human family member?

My friend just lost her dog, and she is really down, as if it was her brother!! Is this ok to me but not for all people...

Definitely, I'll be lonely when that happens. I love my two dogs so much that the first thing I always do when I wake up is to make sure I play with them. They really are my best friends. Every time I felt sad, mad or lonely I just cuddle them and play with those cute creatures.

My cat Izzy - My baby girl. At limes it's like she is my little kid.
I will definetly miss my pets when they die. I have a dog(age13) and a cat(age 8) and when they die I will be very sad because to me my animals are a part of my family.

I love my cats very much and would miss them terribly. There are pets that I have had in the past that I still miss and my heart aches a little when I think of them. Pets to me are part of the family.

I am very attached to my pets and I do miss them when they die very much like a human being. Pets, especially pets that live indoors with us, do become family members and we feel a real loss when they die. I think it may have been somewhat different when animals played a more functional or work related role and lived outdoors. I also think that it may have been different when there were fewer pet vaccinations so that pets did not live as long so you expected them to die more quickly. Not only do I miss my pets when they die, but also I reminisce about things they did with other people, much the way I would do when talking about deceased family or friends. The average or expected life span of a species is one of the things I investigate whenever I hear about the species being suggested as a pet. Although I am not someone who acquires parrots or tortoises because they are likely to outlive me, I do find myself thinking that I would not acquire a pet hamster, for instance, because hamsters don't have a very long (as in dogs and cats) life expectancy and I would not want to lose it as a pet so soon.

Pets become very close to people and there are some people that have no family or friends and all they have are their pets and when they loose them it is very painful. I believe once you get attached to your pet he/she becomes part of your family. Welcome to mylot!

Of course, I will. I will surely miss my two cats or my dog if they pass over. I wouldn't be able to bear it. You see, I can't even bear the thought of it. The reason? They are so loving and so accepting. Frankly, I haven't come across any human being more loving than them. So, sure I will miss my pets if they go away from me. Cheers and happy mylotting

my cat - this is the cat that i lost in an accident. isn't he handsome?
i've ever lost my cat to an accident. it was totally heart wrenching for me. i couldn't eat for days nor sleep. it was like i went into a catatonic state. my family and friends were so worried about me. it is like losing a son. i cannot imagine going through the same thing again. losing a pet to old age is less traumatic, but nonetheless heart breaking. but losing a pet to an accident is the worst thing that can happen to me.

my dog saber - dog
I know when I lose my dog that it is going to kill me and I don't even know what'll happen to me. That is how close I am to him. He is my whole world and I love him just like a mother would her child because to me he is my child. I spend every single waking moment of my life with him. He is always with me and I bring him every where that I can with me and he is no little toy dog. lol He's a big boy too so that is not always easy. but when you spend that much time with someone then you gonna be very close even if its an animal. Dogs be great friends as most people already know and i think its normal to miss a pet like a family member because they become one to most family's.

I would my animals are just like my kids. You get to attached to them! It just like losing a family member. Don't be so hard on your friend!

Of course I will! Animals are as much a part of the family as a human being, as far as I'm concerned. I was raised with pets, and I'll probably spend my whole life owning at least one pet (as budget and living circumstances allow, of course). When I was fifteen, I lost my German Shepherd, who'd raised me and protected me since I was two. I was heartbroken, and very reluctant to get a new dog back when my parents wanted another (of course, that's changed since then).

Yes, I will miss my dog because my dog is the only one that comforts me aside from my mother.

No, I believe that it's completely normal. When we bring an animal into our home, it often becomes so much more than a pet but also a best friend/family member. My mom still has the cat that we got when my brother was barely walking - that was almost 16-17 years ago! How can you not form a bond with something that has been a part of your life, almost every day? You not only lose a friend, but a companion. The one thing that never passed judgement on you!

people say a dog would rather die outside than in their home. Days ago, a friend of mine who is over 60years old looked so dismayed and asked me if i had ever kept a dog. i said yes. then she told me her dog had swayed away. The dog never gets lost and can always finds home. but since he is quite old, and recently behaved strangely, walked out of his home and never came back. Neighbours saw him walking in the direction of the market instead of his home. so the poor dog chose to die outside ,would never let his owner see him dying.
