a good craft that can be used to make a livable income. Do you think it is really possible to make a livable income through handcrafts such as crochetting or knitting, or would this be impossible in this day and age? Also where do you think is the best place to advertise a homebased business?

what i would do in your situation is start going to craft shows, talk to vendors, see how they are doing, get some ideas, also go to your local library and do some research in that way. there are books out there on starting and running your own craft business.

That sounds like very good advice, I wish sometimes there was a short cut to doing things, lol anyway, I appreciate your taking time to respond to this discussion

sadly, in something like that, there are very little shortcuts.

AnnaB7...welcome, I really think it depends on your location! I think you should visit your Local Craft Stores, and check with them! Possibly they have a need for a Craft, that you would enjoy doing! I make very reasonable pocket money sewing! Slipcovers are a big thing, but most of my money I make from alterations & mending! You will be surprised the number of people that need of alterations......lots of men need jeans mended! Just an idea! Cheers & rainbows!

Thank you for the ideas, I don't really sew well enough to do that yet though. I do like to crochet though but it takes me a really really long time to get anything made. Thanks for the welcome, and I will try to look into selling a few items at local craft stores, Thanks again for the ideas

To be honest I really don't believe that you can make a living off of crafts nowadays. I know we have had some craft shops around here, but they have all gone out of business. I had a mother-in-law that used to do crafts, but also no longer. There really is no real good money in it. If you do a craft fair, you have to pay for the booth. If you put your items in a craft store, then you have to pay for that. People like to look, but do they really buy that much! I don't think so. Good luck.
