What do you think? Do you like to shop a lot? When I was studying in university, I liked to shop a lot. I had plenty of spare time other than studied and assignments. I used most of my spare time shopping with house mates. I wasted a lot of money on unnecessary things which I regretted so much now. Now I am working, I have started to realize it's hard to earn every single penny. I start to cut down my expenses on shopping. I can save more money for better use. How about you? Please share with me.

I believe that shopping is a big waste of money! I might be saying that because I always have to use most of my money for bills and rent but when I do have extra money I think its best to just save it after getting the things you NEED. Thats my opinion! I still envy the people who actually have the money to waste on impulse shopping!

Yes, I have to agree with you! When I was working I had quite a good job which made me feel as if I had money to spend on clothes and things, but now that I'm no longer working I'm realising the price of things, and just how expensive most things are. I'm noticing that I don't really need to go shopping very often at all. The clothes I have are just fine. And when I do need something I tend to go for the cheaper shops (although I do worry about the possible slave labour involved in making them so cheap). And I'm also hoping to get more into things like Freecycle, where people give away all sorts of things. I agree, it's good to be able to saver your money for more important things.

I never think that shopping is a waste of money. Maybe the product you buy is a waste but shopping in general is never a waste. But I do have to say that shopping when your bored can be mighty dangers! I have returned many unneccessary items because of being bored.

I hate shopping for groceries. To me food is a waste of money since we just p??p it out. But we have to eat, no choice on that one. I hate shopping for clothes because I have a hard time finding clothes that fit me. Either they are too big, or too small. I seem to be inbetween sizes right now. I also have long legs and it is hard to find pants long enough for me. I hate shopping for household items. I am not very color corinadated so I have a hard time buying things that match. I just hate spending money, period. I like to save as much as I can.

Shopping isn't a wast of money but that is depending on what you buy and if it was really worth it. I love to shop but now knowing that I want to save money as to be able to move out into my own place I know I need to cut back on my extra spending. So now I only go shopping for things I really need not just want.

I love shopping. Its my way of rewarding myself from working hard.Besides i don't have other ways to enjoy myself other than doing this. For me it is not a waste of money as long as i am happy doing it.Happiness is more important than money.

It all depends on what you are shopping for. I know that there are a lot of people here who will want to be the first ones and will answer that you should not waste your money. I know, I have those people in my life. You feel like calling them up and asking was it all right to buy a dress and they would say no and you get the feeling that when you ask why, they will say as soon as you live in a hovel and are reduced to your bra and panties and it is snowing outside, and you have to walk in your bare feet. I do believe in comparative shopping and I also believe that lack of money leads to lack of experience. If you do not know what to shop and how to shop, you will buy junk. What you need is an attitude change, see what are needs, what are wantneeds (those things inbetween the kind you want to buy for yourself are necessary and when you get them as a gift say 'i always needed a KitchenAid!: and what are wants like candies, something that will fall apart when you look at it, etc. and you will not go wrong. Wants are nonos, needs are necessary and if you want to reward yourself get the wantneeds. And never skip the chocolates.

With the way things are going now it is better to save money then go waste it on things you don't need. I do like shopping sometimes. I went this weekend without my kids and it was so relaxing. I really enjoyed it. I bought me 2 pairs of shorts for only $3.99 each, I got my daughter 3 cute outfits for $5.99 each and my hubby some shorts to go play all his sports in for only $6.99 each. I also found yogos which my girls love and I love b/c they are good for them $1.00 a box which is a good deal. I hate shopping during Christmas time. We started shopping already. We are going to try and buy at least 1 thing a week maybe more.

well i don't really like to shop. i do go to the shopping malls once in a while to see what's new. however, i do enjoy going to the supermarket. it's a place where i can get a lot of things for very little money. ;p i don't find shopping to be a waste of money. the waste happens when you buy unneccessary things. if you shop and buy things you need, then money is not wasted.

The only time I would think of shopping to be a waste of money would be people who buy things just because there on sale weither they need it or not. Or buying one item at one price when you could have gotten two or three of the same thing at the same price.

shopping - woman in shopping cart with 2 shopping bags
Hi I personally do not like to shop or browse. When I need something, I go in the store, get what I need and get out. I used to shop and go to the malls all the time in my younger years. Now, I just don't have the extra money to blow so I figure why go look at it if I don't have any money to buy it. Have a great day, Char

i like shopping, but i think we have to be wise to shop. we are same, i am working hard to earn single penny, but i can set up my shopping, we have to choose what we have to shop, what we need we have to shop but sometimes when we are in the mall we often forget and spend money for something we don't need yet. It's better to save money than to shop.

It is not a waste of money if you dont do it all the time . Every couple of months i will go on a tiny shopping spee for clothing and spend around 150 bucks . Then in the summer i go a little crazy with the flip flops . Now that i dont really have any extra i will not do that .

I don't waste money when I go shopping. I usually only go when I actually need to buy something. Sometimes I go just for the heck of shopping. I have learned how to go shopping and not buy anything. I love to just look at things and feel the softness of materials. And, I like to dream about what I might buy some day. I hardly ever have an impulse to buy something I can do without. I've even picked up things in a store, only to decide, before I pay for them, that I can do without them, and I'll go put them back. I've shopped all day and not spent a penny. I am definitely a frugal shopper!

I think to just say "shopping" is too broad a term. Unless you live on a very well equipped farm, and perhaps not even then, shopping for necessities is a way of life. This is true whether you do the shopping or someone else does it for you. Things must be procured in order to sustain life. If you're referring to "shopping" as just spending money for the sake of getting new things (whether you want/need them or not) or perhaps just to have something to do, then I would have to say that I am not generally in favor of wasting money. This is particularly true for me when it means that I end up bringing stuff into my home that is not needed and just turns into clutter. I have enough clutter issues to deal with already without bringing more into the home. That being said, I do enjoy going shopping sometimes. And sometimes I find things that I really want that I didn't realize I had a desire for before. We're all human, and in moderation many things are okay. I'm currently in a mindset of saving and paying down debt, so I'm not terribly interested in shopping without purpose, but sometimes it is fun.

It is said that - 'money saved is money earned'. It appears that you have now started following this dictum. Shopping per se is not a waste of money. But if we indulge in unnecessary shopping, without giving it a serious thought, then we repent later and feel that we wasted our precious money. Sometimes, I also buy items on impulse feeling, which I regret later, specially when I am alone. To avoid it, I go to the market with my better half, who keep a check on my unnecessary buying spree..........LOL!

To me shopping is not a waste of money. I do not spend much if I do not really need or really wish for something. I think it is much better to just get those kinds of things. I hate having too much stuff around. I also think it is a great thing to treat oneself - to make oneself happy and just get something that is not really very useful for other purpoes than jpy. That is not being wasteful

hi yenwie. In my opinin shopping is a sad necessity. It is a waste of money, time and effort. It is said that women love shopping, but I am a woman and I don't like it. While studying, I used to go shopping with my room mates from dormitories. It was quite enjoyable, because there was a lot of fun in anything we were doing together. I started to save money and to spend them wisely before I have end my studies. I like to be frugal. I don't live like miser but I don't spend money on things I don't need. My savings grow slowely on my saving account and I like to watch it . Have a nice day, jazgottt.

Hi Shopping can be worth or waste, all depends on you. I go for shopping only when i have to buy. Sometimes we go for shopping just for time pass, but there are so many attractive things at display that we end up buying something which we donot need at all. So i go with a shopping list and buy only things on the list. Also if there is a sale, donot go for it unless you know that items on sale are those which you use or will use in near future. Excessive stocks should not be kept on pretext of 70% off coz everyday there is change in fashion, your size and your needs.

This is exactly opposit for me. When i was studying i was very much limited to the monthly pocket money available to me for shopping. I only purchased the things i really needed. But now scenario has changed. Now that i have started earning, my shoppping deamon have come out of the closet. Yes i do shop a lot, many a times for unnecceary stuff, but within the budget. Again this is because i realize now that how tough it was for my parents to earn money.
