Maybe they are getting Closer....

Well, if you haven't noticed we just had another upgrade this morning. This one was very small, and if you're not paying attention you might miss it. There may be other things that I didn't notice, so if you've seen them let me know. But MyLot has made it so the report icon doesn't disappear when you rate a discussion or response. This is closer to what we have been clamoring about, a change in the rating system altogether so it doesn't allow as much trolling. Its not exactly what we wanted, but its a step in the right direction. Do you think that MyLot is actually getting closer to what we have been screaming about forever, or is this just to appease us for the time being, until there's another big flame war or something to that effect? Let me know MyLot, are they getting closer to what we wanted?

I am a bit nervous about the explanation report, because there are still those who will report because they have a different point of view then yours. There is another thing that I want done. When I got my friends, I have a whole page of them and I do not exactly check the notify me on the friend page until later on. I would like the notify me be on the profile page, so I think I will ask about that. It would be a good idea, do you not think so?

I think its good that they have started in the right direction as it keeps people from negatively rating people for no reason or just because they dont agree with them.I hope that they are going to get closer to what we wanted. They have been improving the site so we never know.:)

I figure they may be getting closer to doing the rating system over because it is right there next to it lol. Also, its closely related to ratings when you think about it, so hopefully they don't stop there and that is the next thing on the list to revamp.

I did notice that when rating several posts that the report button was still there. In my opinion, that is an improvement to the site, but still need a top friends list, so I can find certain members discussions, as a few people on my list post so many that its hard to find anyone else's discussions.

Thats a simple solution. When you are under the discussions tab, just look in the minor tabs that says "Friends Started". There you will find all of your friends posts listed from the most recently posted or responded to. The report button feature is an improvement, but not really the one we are looking for. I am still waiting for a new ratings system that will deter trolls.

Hi drknlvly, I have also responded to another member stressing this (!) symbol..Honestly, I really don't know the function of that, hahaha! Excuse again my ignorance! I just learned it lately with Lori..ANyway, I am sure they are really monitoring what are the common complain and suggestions of members and they are working on it..Great job right?[em]

Well, maybe they are starting to. We have been complaining for months about the ratings system, and they haven't done anything about that problem yet. This does seem a little closer to right; it does seem conveinient that now the (!) doesn't disappear when you rate the conversation. That way if you forget and rate it, you can still come back and flag it for attention. You don't have to choose between rating a discussion negative and flagging it. But I would still like to see something happen to the ratings system itself so that we are more protected from spiteful people who run around rating people negative for no apparent reason.

Well, i don't understand how that can control trolling... i rated this discussion positive... but the ! did not disappear... unlike before where it will just say rated... well... maybe after a while... we will feel what this new upgrade is all about... and i hope this will definitely control the trolling of some members...

I would hope so to, but it doesn't seem like that is the case. It just seems that the rating button is more accessible, now that it doesn't disappear like everything else. I hope that the rating system is the next thing to be updated, all the aesthetic mess they did could have waited until after they did that.

Well I am glad you told me what the upgrade was because it happened yesterday and I did not have a CLUE what it was they had upgraded LOL. Shows how observant I am ah??? It is good if they are listening to what the members actually want, they should do really as we are the ones that keep it all going. If it was not for the members then the ship would sink really. Plus we are the ones on here all the time and so really we know what would work best.

Unfortunately it looks like I am wrong. Here it is a couple of weeks later, and they still haven't done anything about the rating system itself. I'm starting to think this troll situation must benefit Mylot in one way or another, because after all our complaining and whatnot, we still haven't gotten any relief from it. Mooch is already gone, one of the original members of Mylot, how many more do we have to lose before they will actually do something, or does it even matter to them?

Yeah mooch has gone, I was quite upset about that. I think that things have changed around here a lot in the last few months, it is not the same as it was when I first joined just a few months ago.

They might be, but we will not truly know until another big change comes our way. We have to be patient and see what other changes MyLot is going to make. They have made a lot as far as I can see, but I can also see that they still have more changes to make.

I noticed it this morning and was not sure what it was going to accomplish. I think it's not that great of a change because you can rate it positive AND report it at the same time???

I did not notice it. I would like to see a duo rating system. 1) Did the person put real effort into the answer. 2) Do you agree or disagree with the answer. I think it would be interesting - let's say a person is talking about an abusive relationship but they have 3 kids, their is no abuse involving the kids. Find out what percentage of people agree with with the advice given. A person could say I think you should leave and nothing else, you could agree with the answer but since they did not back up their reason why rate them differently for the effort in the answer. Another person person could say - the kids need 2 parents and since they are not the subjects of the abuse, you should stay. You married this person, you knew what they were like and you should stick it out. - MORE EFFORT IN THE ANSWER so they get a plus but you can disagree with the advice. See what I mean.

I see your point Deb, but then again shouldn't all of that be displayed in the answer a person gives? IMO I don't think that should be part of the ratings system, at least connected with the star, because that would really send the rating system out of whack. If a person continually makes discussions and responses that the general public doesn't agree with, although its perfectly within the guidelines, they would end up with a bad rating just because people don't agree with them. That's what we're trying to get away from.

I did see that. As for whether they are getting closer to giving us what we want, I don't know. One can only hope. But, I think that in order for them to actually be getting closer to it, that would mean that there wasn't a rating system that can be abused in the first place. LOL! But, we can hope! Perhaps they will make it so that you have to respond in order to rate. That would help. If you can rate people without responding, that would keep the brats from holding on to their anonymity.

I didn't notice this either, you're very observant. It's good that they're still making changes, it makes you wonder what the next change will be. I hope that they'll tackle some of the trolling problems too.

Huh, what do you know? I hadn't noticed that. Then again, I don't rate people very often unless I'm either very impressed or very disgusted with what they said. MyLot seems to be making lots of little changes lately, though, so I don't know if they're going the way so many people want them to, or what. That would be nice, though.
