When I'm hot, nothing else matters!

Does the heat make you feel sick? Do you like being in the heat? How do you cool down during the worst part of summer? As for me, I hate the heat! Simply can't stand it. When I was really young, I didn't mind the heat so much. Then I went on an unfortunate family car trip and almost had heat stroke one summer. We didn't have air conditioning in the car and the mace (in the glove compartment) accidentally went off by itself and exploded from the heat and I got a good dose on my forehead! I can still remember how much my head burned. What a nightmare. Ever since then, I have little tolerance for heat. Now, whenever I'm hot, I can't think about anything else. I hate the heat! If I wake up hot, I have to go take a shower to cool down or else feel miserable all day. It's just the way I am. And if I come in from outdoors and I'm hot, I have to rest or end up feeling very crabby and blue. Does the heat make your brain feel foggy?

Oh my GOODNESS! It's a wonder you weren't blinded by that stuff. I bet you were sick, in the heat on top of it all. Funny a 'heat' discussion has come up. Just yesterday I was thinking about that very thing. I use to could work in the heat all day. Not anymore, now I get dizzy and nauseated in no time after being out in it, or even in the house for that matter with the AC on. I live in southeast Georgia and it's hot here anyway, but the humidity mixed in with it is a killer for me. It could be I'm just older now (50) and my body doesn't tolerate it anymore. Yesterday I went out to work on the chicken coup, mind you we're under heavy, thick oak trees, the sun can't even penetrate the leaves and branches; so I'm not even in the sun, and all of a sudden a wave of nausea would come over me. I had sweat pouring off my face. I keep plenty of water on hand, I don't over exert myself, I have a wet towel to wipe my face, but each summer it gets harder. I could understand it if I was digging a hole in the sun, but messing around with filling nest boxes...I don't get it. Like I said, I can be in the house cleaning and if I get a little hot, the nausea hits. I hate it too because I like to work outside in my yard, I like to piddle around and do small projects.

Yeah, it's getting about that bad for me too. Just today I was inside the house and trying to clean and got overheated and exhausted just from sweeping! It's completely ridiculous.

Like you I can no longer handle the heat. When I was a child I thought nothing of it and was always playing outside. As a teenager I spent several summers working the cornfields detassling corn. But, about 11 years ago while on a family vacation I did suffer heat stroke. We were hiking in a canyon and were on our way out and to our car. I didn't think I was going to make it but I did. Everyone kept telling me to stop and sit and cool down. I knew I wouldn't cool down unless I had AC so I kept going. By the time I got to the car my face was gray I was clammy, my head was throbbing and I was so very sick. Ever since then I can't handle the heat. This summer has been especially hard on me since my asthma has gotten worse. So, I've spent most of the time so far stuck inside in the AC. I get out once or twice a week to grocery shop or get some lunch, then I'm right back home. I haven't even used the pool much this year either.

Yep! That sounds about what happened with me. I kept telling everyone I was too hot and felt strange in the heat.

I hate the heat. Always have. I grew up in the Mojave desert. I was rather portly when a kid because all I wanted to do was sit in the shade of some big tree. I can image that the mace was particularly bad because of the heat and would make you even more sensitive to heat just with that memory. Ice cubes and hot weather were made for each other. It is amazing how much cooler you feel just having an ice cube in your mouth.

I am a horrible summer person! If I could I would sleep during the day and only be awake at night once it had cooled off. The heat makes me sick and cranky and tired. I can fall asleep anywhere when I get too hot...which is odd for me because under normal conditions I can't sleep unless I'm in just the right position and it's quiet and my blankets are laid out just right (I'm a super particular sleeper LOL). But if I'm hot and over heated, I will doze off on the car trailer, in the car (while riding not driving!), on the ground if I sit to watch the kids play...just anywhere. When I come in from the heat I can also easily doze off for awhile while I get cooled off. It's not that I want to sleep, I just have no choice in it.

Oh, you lucky ducky! I wish I could sleep when I'm hot. Instead, my hair sticks to my neck and I feel miserable until I get up and take a shower. Actually cool tub baths make me sleepy cause they lower my blood pressure but cold showers make me feel invigorated. So I have to avoid those at bedtime. Either one will do on a really hot day, though!

I am like you and I hate the heat. I have hot flashes and between the heat and my hot flashes I go crazy some days. I used to live in Winnipeg and we had the worst summers ever, or some people's view, the best summers ever. It would get so hot and humid there that I would have to find a place that had airconditioning and go spend the day there. Usually I went to my mom's or to the mall or to work since I worked in an office that had central air, in the evenings and on weekends, when I couldn't stand another minute of the heat at home. I didn't have central air in my house because I couldn't afford it, but I did have a window air conditioner but on those really hot humid days it didn't help much. Also in Winnipeg, if it was hot during the day it was hot at night too. Now I live in Calgary were it doesn't get as hot or humid and at night time it cools down so much my house has a chance to cool off as well as me. It is almost like living in a dessert, it gets so cool at night. But I love it.

The heat just makes my head HURT! It also drains all the energy out of me. I grew up in the northern part of New Mexico and the high altitude plus less heat was comfortable for me. But when we moved to Texas it was really hard for me to adjust to the heat in the summer. I still can't take the heat and I've been here most of the time for over 50 years. Sometimes even if the air conditioner is going I have to get a wet wash cloth and put over my face and let a fan blow on it or I just feel like I can't breath. Sometimes a wet cloth around my neck helps.

I can't stand heat as well, you can't dress for it and you take in all possibilities to get a bit comfortable but it's allmost undoable. Cold drinks are nice but you must see to it that you do not drink them too fast or you might pass out. On hot days I make sure I get a lot of shade and stay inside with my fan on and the window wide open. I'm on the attic so it's still pretty hot but at least I won't get burned by the sun in there .

I love the heat it can get to be a bit much but I will just eat some ice to cool down. Plus a dip in the pool always keeps me cool. I dont even use the AC in my house much as I want to save money. I have always been one who loves the heat the hubby hates coming home to a hot house but he will live lol.

The heat makes me sick. I don't like it very much at all. If I get to over heated through out the day I have to go take a shower ever if i took one earlier in the day. The heat also makes my body shake. not really bad since I have a new medication to take to control it. I have had to leave church services before because of this. Which was pretty embarssing. I will be glad when it cools down again thatis for sure.

Thankfully! It can't stay hot forever. Though in winter time, it's always bad cause of cold season. Though I would happily endure colds just not to have to deal with the heat. Course, I think many of my so called colds are just sinus infections. I don't have so many of those living so far down south. When I lived in Alabama, I had them constantly. It was super cold there.

It got close to 110 degrees Fahrenheit last week in the Sacramento valley, and with the fires filling the valley with smoke, it was not a pretty picture. One day there was a breeze from hell, like from a furnace. Being outside that day was totally inhabitable. I would never be able to be a fire fighter. Being very cold is just as bad, but as long as I have the proper clothes, it is no big deal. Cold weather clothes are very good at keeping you warm - hot weather clothes do not do that much to make me cooler - unless I dowse them in ice water. But then the water heats up, and I'm wearing clothes soaked in warm water. Yes, I did try it. I don't follow the convention of warm weather clothes of shorts and short-sleeved (or no-sleeved) shirts - I wear long pants and long-sleeved shirts when I'm out for most of the day for protection from the sun. It's been saner this week, temperatures just below 100. Every once in a while the smoke will return, but most days it is mostly clear.

Many people under estimate the power of the sun to burn. I'm glad you are taking precautions. Leaving skin uncovered does little to cool the body. Light weight clothes, gauze or linen that covers skin is much better than shorts or bikini that leaves skin uncovered to sun damage! Thanks for your post. You made many relevant points.

It depends actually. If I've been feeling cold and lonely, a bit of sunshine usually cheers me up and I make hay when the sun is shining. Although I have to say that I hate the heat to some extent. I'm one pig and I perspire a lot, more than a normal person does and if the fans are not working when I sweat, I usually freak out and I lose concentration. It happens in the class especially If I play basketball during recess and sweat profusely. I have never had heat strokes or any such things, but I cannot really give my 100% in a very humid and hot environment. bourne

In the winter time, I love standing outside with the sun shining and the chilly weather. It's the perfect mix. We don't get many very cold days. And the sun is almost always shining unless it is raining!

I hate the heat too! I can't stand feeling sweaty and tired! I usually take a shower with water a little bit cold to refresh if I'm home. When I'mout I usually venture into a store with a great air conditioner! I cant stand the heat :(

Heat is no fun. i just quit a job where I was working in temperatures of over 110 degrees, 9-10 hours a day none the less. It was so hot that just swiping your time card was a daunting task in itself. We were expected to keep up with an assembly line, with 12 seconds per prodcut to do our job. It was insane in itself, but combined with the heat, it was just plain cruel.

I am not bothered by the heat, as long as I know where to find a nice tall glass of ice cold water. I spent the better part of a year in Sedona Arizona, and boy oh boy did it ever get hot down there...and it was a DRY HEAT, so it was essencial that i not leave the house without a big bottle of water.

I intensely dislike the heat too, my friend. I'm fair skinned and my body just doesn't know how to deal with it. I feel weak, sometimes even shaky and I can't get enough cool drinks with oodles of ice. We don't have air conditioning in this country because it's rarely ever hot enough for it to benefit us, and also, our weather is quite inclement, so a wasted commodity. We can attach fans to the light fittings if we wish, but that's all. Brightest Blessings, my friend. xx

I am not big on the hot heat either. I try to find shade. I won't sit out in the direct sun if I don't have to- in the heat of the summer. Yesterday was my family reunion- we went out and played volleyball- 5 games- and let me tell you it was hot. In between every game I jumped in the pool. Being really hot makes me feel sick as well.

It seems that when someone has had heat stroke they cannot tolerate the heat. I too cannot tolerate the heat. I get nauseous and dizzy. If I wake up and am hot in the summer time I go out to the back yard and strip off my nightgown and get into my pool. Yes I skinny dip. I cool off and then can go back to bed and go back to sleep. I do love my pool. If I do not get in my pool I will turn the hose on and get wet that way. That is refreshing also. Right now I have an ear infection and cannot get my ear wet so I do not dare take a shower to the hose is good to clean off and not get my ear wet.

My worst enemy is heat. I can't stand to be hot and I'm a really mean person when I'm hot because I'm so uncomfortable. I can't stand to be hot. It is my belief that a person can keep putting on more and more clothes to become warm when it is cold, but there's not way to take off enough to keep cool! My house is always at 69 degrees, I've never worked a job which required me to be outside, and I always sleep with the window up in the winter. I have slight asthma and I have anxiety attacks, so heat doesn't make it better. I love very hot showers so that I feel cool when I get out. But, if I'm in the bed with a guy and he is giving off to much heat, I will make him move as far away from me as possible or maybe even leave the room. You're not the only one and I completely understand the way you feel. ttyl

Extreme heat or cold are on equal footing. I live in a town that has the best climate in the world. Temp dont go beyond 30c nor bellow 15c in any given year. I know that when it is hot, the best you can do is to find a shade or a cooler place, dont take a cold shower nor take a cold drink. Try to bring your body temp nearer to that of the environment. You will feel hotter after trying to cool your system. Sip coffee or tea instead.
