Do you take your pet with you?

In the summer here I often find a pet panting in a car while the owner is inside a store..Why do people take their pets when they shop? My dog used to like to go with me but she is too old to get in the car now. I never took her when it was too hot or too cold. "A man was driving down the road with twenty penguins in the back seat. The police stop him and say that he can't drive around with the penguins in the car and should take them to the zoo. The man agrees and drives off. The next day the same man is driving down the road with twenty penguins in the back and again." He is stopped by the same police officer who says, "Hey! I though I told you to take those to the zoo." The man replies, "I did. Today I'm taking them to the movies."

My cats definately do not like to ride in the car. I think that the fact that the only time they get a car ride is to go to the vet might have something to do with their dislike of cars. Years ago when we did have a small dog, she loved to ride in the car, but we never left her alone in the vehicle. If we were going shopping, we left her at home.

I have two small dogs but I would never dream of taking them if I am going to the store. I live in a hot climate and it's unthinkable to me to leave my dogs in the hot car, even if the windows were open. They are better off left at home where they are safe and cool. However, they come with me in the car if I am visiting a friend, or driving to the park to take them a walk.

Hahaha!! People and animals. It never ceases to amaze me how people and animals bond. We should also bond with plants and this planet. Maybe we will take better care of this planet if we bonded with it. Cheers!!!

Very cute. We only take our dog to PetSmart or the vet. We love her. But she is way too excitable. And in the summer especially it gets too hot in the car.

Funny.........:D I like it. I never took a pet with me coz I have no pets now.I don't agree the behavior to take pets with you when shopping especially on hot or cold days. My family had dogs in my childhood,of cource now it also has. When i went shopping,my dog would wave his tail and happily followed me.It was very happy journey.^^ Have a good day!

That's a funny story. I have a dog that loves car rides and she goes whenever I am going places that I don't have to leave the car. We go to the drive thru place first for something to eat and a cup of water for her. She loves tacos. Then we will run errands together. I keep the air conditioner running on her if it is hot and make sure she has water available. She considers it one of her perks in life to have car rides. If I don't take her for awhile, she gets in the car and refuses to get out until she at least gets to go around the block a few times.

Here in Canada there is a law against leaving your pet or your kids in the car. Hubby and I don't drive, so we don't have a car, and can't really take a pet on the bus. Even if we had our own vehicle, we would not take our pet with us for a shopping trip. We would take our pet on a visit to Mom's place, but that's because we'd bring the pet into the house with us to visit Mom. There is no point in bringing a pet somewhere, unless the destination will be fun for the pet.

Haha thats a funny story...I used to take my pet with me when he was a puppy, I didn't take him if I was going to the store because I didn't want to have to leave him in the car, but if I was just going to the post office or some place I was going to go in and out I would take him. I don't know why people leave take their animals then leave them in a hot car, its the same thing as leaving your kids in a hot car, they can die from it, it can get really hot in a car on 90+ degree days, so why would you do your pet that way too? Most stores won't let you take pets in unless you have them in your purse or a carrier or something.

That is very funny. Today I actually saw this happen where a dog was left in a car with the windows up! 84 degrees outside. no air inside.. yeah... brilliant move! (rolls eyes)

Both me and my boyfriend take our dogs out. They like it when they go out. It is a good exercise for them and it will give them a chance to socialize with other dogs and with people as well. We make sure that the places we will go to are dog friendly. There are many places where animals are allowed. Just make sure that you will not leave them alone on the car or anywhere else for that matter. Oh and we bring lots and lots of water cause they can get really tired of walking.

The only times that I take my dogs with me is when I'm going to the park with my family or visiting my mom. I know it gets hot so i always take a disposable glass to fill it up with water where ever it is that we are but, if I know that I an going to store or a place where pets are not allowed I'll just leave them home instead.

Very funny story! I think you are including a reputable member here, Raydene. Anyway, I have 3 dogs now. They are naughty. Beethoven, Mocca, and Brenih those are the names how we call them. Brenih love to sleep inside a pot. Every time we bring them to the rice field, they will play on the ground and they will be dirty. I can't imagine if I must bring them everywhere. But, however, they are cute. Very cute.

No, I do not generally take my pets, unless it is by accident. I did have a cat on top of the car and she rode clear out into the street, and the neighbor kid jumping up and down saying "Ma'am" " Ma'am your cat!!!"

I so agree with you. Lately people carry around these dogs more like a fashion accessory. I think its sad that they carry these pups around all day and take them places where they really shouldn't be. I only take my pups to the dog park or a dog friendly beach and the only times they've stayed in the car was while I was pumping gas. I would never leave a poor creature in the a locked car like so many others do. People need to think about where they are going and what they will be doing before they pack their pups. I love your joke too!
