In my area, medical assistants aren't in demand anymore because the market was saturated a few years ago when there was a great need. The better bet (if you are looking to pursue a career in healthcare) might be to become a CNA, which is less expensive and a shorter training course. In MY area its easier to find work as a CNA, and because there are more positions, the employers are more competitive when hiring CNAs. The salary is lower than for a medical assistant, but most medical asst jobs will not offer tuition reimbursement if you want to continue onto your LPN or even RN. And I would probably recommend NOT doing an online training, you may earn the certificate, but because medical assistants work so hands on, a lot of employers would shy away from someone who hasn't worked on people or even mannequins. Look into it in your area, because it may be different where you live. Good luck!!

I'm not so sure it would be worth it for you. A lot of the medical assistant training is not only hands on, but requires an externship where you work with actual patients. I don't see how you can learn to find a pulse, draw blood, etc. without hands on training!

honestly where i live in houston, texas medical assistants arent in high demand and if they are they barely pay $8 even at a hospital. i went and got my medical assitants certificate but i wish i would have spent the time that i spent going to school for something else.
