Meg is no Tom Sawyer!

For the past little while the hubs has been building me a picket fence to go around the front of our yard. Before he left in the wee hours of Tues. morning to take care of things 'back home' for his mother, he had nearly all the pickets put up. It was my job while he was away to get them painted. Most of you know by now that Megs visits me every morning for her daily dose of home made coffee cake. Tuesday was no different. Only on that morning the cake was outside on the porch with a carafe of coffee and I was busy painting the fences white. It was a glorious day of sun, with a steady cool breeze. Megs watched me very carefully while I worked and she polished off the cake. When I looked up she was gone but before I could think, she came bounding out of my house in one of my floppy brimmed hats (similar to the one I was wearing) with a paintbrush in both hands! Against my better judgment I showed her how to dip the brush in the paint and apply it to the fence. It was a bit of a struggle to get her to use one brush at a time. lol Well Megs got into the spirit of things fast! And I mean fast! She dipped her brush up to the handle, didn't wipe off the excess, just went from can to fence with a slap and took off running down the side of the fence dragging the brush along it as she went. I near fell over! LOL With a little discussion and refining of her system, we nearly had the whole one side of the fence painted in less than half an hour. I had to go along behind her (well, it was her idea, so she got pride of place! LOL) and smooth out the surface, but it was a hell of a lot more fun to do it her way than my own let me tell you! I suggested a break, but again Meg had other ideas. Before I knew it she was dipping again and painting the front of her shirt. "See - I look great in white!" she laughed! Things went from fence to us right quick after that. I can't really remember how it started, but before I knew it we were flicking paint from our brushes at each other and getting peppered with paint drops large and small. It was all over our clothes, our faces, our hats, my plants, the grass and the tail end of a robin silly enough to get too close. We both ended up on the lawn rolling around in laughter and paint. When our hysteria subsided, I sent Megs home to have a shower and wash off the paint. I spent the next hour trying to undo the damage, but hubs is still going to be in for a surprise when he gets home tomorrow. The fences are now finished but the grass needs to be cut to get rid of the paint that's all over it. lol As for my plants - well at least they're color co-ordinated to my fence now! LOL

I bet that was a site and a lot of fun. I'd love to have been there with you, if nothing else just watching laughing my head off with you. Nah, I couldn't just watch. I'm not that kind of person, lol. I'm glad you had a jolly time doing the fence. It turned out to be more fun than you anticipated.

I absolutely hate painting! But I certainly have a new appreciation for it now - and a shortcut to getting it done! LOL

That's great sparks! Sounds like loads of fun to me. I would have bought a ticket to see that. The robin may never be the same however. Going home to the nest and explaining to her hubby how she got white paint all over her. She'll have to explain that she got too close to two crazy women throwing paint at each other and rolling around in the grass. I can see Mr. Robin standing there on the edge of the nest, tip of one wing under his beak saying, "Yeah, right! Now, what REALLY happened!"

LOL - oh craft it was worse than that! It was a young robin who had to go home and explain it to Mom and Dad! Poor thing. I well remember when my own youngest came in the house covered in paint one day. And then I saw my car!! Apparently he didn't like the color and decided to change it. He was five and very industrious! LOL

She may not be Tom Sawyer, but it sounds like a hell of a lot of fun! And hey, between the two of you, you got the fence painted, and considering that was the point, I'd say job well done. I think that you and Meg hanging out together like you do is just so good for the both of you, Sparky. After what you've gone through, it's probably a very healthy thing for you to have something that helps you to focus on things other than what's happening within you, on your pain, or on any worries you might have about the cancer. And helping someone else is always, always good for us. The fact that it's doing Meg a world of good is an extra added fabulous bonus. You're such a good heart, darling. Hmm, I wonder if Meg knows how many people in various parts of the world know about her, care about her, and wait to hear more stories about her. If she does know, would you please give her a kiss and a hug from her cyber-friend Nova? Because if I were there, that's exactly what I'd do. Thanks, baby. Love you. XXX

Oh nova, she hangs over my shoulder sometimes when I'm on the lot. She picked out Tess's avatar right away and saw the cat in it before I did! Tess is her hero! So yes, she knows and I'm teaching her to type. She's fascinated by my computer and my ability to make words appear right in front of me! The problem is keeping her focused long enough to make headway. lol Love you too sweets, and hope you're taking care of yourself too.

I love you two! I think what you two do makes life worth living. We are far too serious these days, taking no time for fun and enjoying each other. Good on you too! No damage done, and you got the job done to boot.

That sounds like so much fun. It was good that you were able to just cut loose and enjoy the day with Megs. I am sure the job was no longer a job and became a very spirited event.

Sorry chicky - but things have been happening fast. I got ill. Very ill. I was gone from here for some time - and you didn't even notice!*pout*. Anyway, my illness woke up the hubs to what he would be losing. We spent a lot of time talking and even got some counselling (which was actually part of my post- op therapy) and we are now trying to work things out. We aren't sleeping together yet, but he's moved back into the house into the guest room and we are just taking it one day at a time for now. Now you're up to date. Hugs.

Skinny, I was with ya on the confusion part. And Sparks, thanks for clearing it up. I hope you keep your eyes open, and he really does make an effort to make things right. Best wishes to you. I'd much rather hear of a repaired marriage and rekindled romance, than a dirty rotten divorce. My blessings on you sweets!!

LOL I'll let you know what the hubs thinks when he gets home tomorrow. And I approved with pleasure, your friends request. Thanks so much for asking! Hugs.
