Here's a novel idea...two year term limits on ALL public offices!

You may ask why such short terms but if you're sick of corruption in public offices, here's my reasoning. Two years isn't enough time for someone to make the contacts that lead to corruption. Not enough time to make buddies with people who want to bribe you or make deals. Not nearly enough time to make friends with people in high places that could get you money after you leave office if you tweak a piece of legislation or fix a parking ticket.
Since our public officials are so corrupt and self-interested, I think 2 year terms with NO re-election allowed would be a great idea. Any drawbacks to this? I can't see any but I'd like to know if my thinking is flawed.

I think two years is to short a time. It does take time to get use to the new job and actually get the paperwork completed and to the right people. Elections are costly, so 2 year term limits would mean spending more money than many of us can afford, as the taxpayers pay more taxes to cover elections. I would like to see 4 year term limits and a limit on all spending for any public office.

Sadly, good looks has helped more than one person get elected and I know it will continue. I'm realistic and realize its hard to not look at the surface. I don't think a paper bag would have kept the hot Kennedy from getting elected President. He was a good looking man and women sure knew it.

hmm you have some good points there as far as the corrupt ones are concerned but it seems a shame for the people who are good at their jobs and do good at it, maybe it is more to the case to have better investigations into that area...

Investigations cost money and we really can't afford to spend money on such things. As far as being good at the job, they can take those talents into the private sector and strengthen our industries and professions. I'm sick and tired of all the corruption, back scratching, earmarks (pork) and special interest groups. If we limited the terms and allowed no re-elections, only people that truly wanted to help the country or the local community and state would run for office. Then we might have a decent government.
