Do you think online dating/personal ad dating is a good idea?

It seems to me that when you are online, or writing/talking to each other (not in person) might be a problem for many reasons. First, you can be anyone. You can literally make up your personality, or even worse, they can. This sounds scary to me. At least when you meet someone in person, you can see their body language, facial expressions, and hear the tone of their voice. It is much easier to really get to know someone in person. Of course, if people are REALLY being themselves, I suppose it can be done. I just think the risks might be bigger than the payoff. What do you think?
