Why Do You Do It?

This morning I decided to look in my interest files. Since artist seems to be a little neglected, I went to the picture gallery. I see that a few new pictures have been added. As I looked at them, I wondered what made people post their work on line. Are you hoping to sell your work? Do you just want to share it with others? The first time I posted anything I did, I really had no idea why I put it in a public album. Even my family and friends were surprised to see my work. It was just something I did. No one knew, or if they did, they didn't really know what it looked like. I just never showed it. I decided to use one of my drawings as my profile picture on all the sites I am registered on. I thought this would be a good way to be recognized, since a lot of people are on several different sites. They would see my profile picture and think, Oh yeah, I know that picture, let's see what she has to say about this or that. Anyway, after using that picture, I decided to post a few more on all the sites that allowed you to have a picture album. I was still not sure WHY I was putting myself out there for all the world to see, if they chose. Then, one day, as I sat making posts, visiting pages and such, I received a message from someone on one of my sites. I had been approached with the idea of using my work on a couple of book covers. Needless to say, I was a bit surprised. I was even freaking out. I was excited, and at the same time I was scared to death. I could have said no, but then I thought, Well maybe that is why I started posting my "doodles". Maybe this is a different direction I can go with my life. I am now working on two book covers with a possibility of a third one in the background. So, why do you post your work for the world to see?

Hm, well my work is not art, it's funny stories about my family and such. Originally the idea was to post it online for relatives who are distant, but I seem to have gotten a following among friends. So anyway I post it because 1) I enjoy writing it and 2) people enjoy reading it.

Yeah, but having a way with words, and being able to write is an art, Dawn. And, those are both good reasons to post your work.

Good for you! I am just now getting to the point that I will show my stuff. I have been "doodling" for as long as I can remember. It was just something I never shared with anyone else.

You've posted a poem or two here, haven't you? I think I read one when I first signed up here. Keep writing poetry, littleowl. To me, it is like a bath for the soul.*S*

I've seen your work. It is great. And, you just never know. Someone who sees your work here, may just walk into a gallery showing one day, and tell you they have been following your work for a long time.*L* I am a big dreamer, can you tell? Anyway, good luck, and keep up the good work.

I know what you mean. Most of mine just sits there, as well. I looked through the gallery here in this interest group. Did I miss yours? I am going to go look at it at deviant art. I love that to see what all is there.
