Old discussions

Do you think it is not a wise thing to do when you start digging others' old discussions? I always do that as I seldom have enough time to spend here and respond to all at once. I received just too many notifications when I was absent from MyLot few months ago. As a result, I was far behind where I have many two or three months old discussions. I know it is not a must for me to respond to all, but I don't feel good just to delete some of the discussions. Even if I found out that the poster already marked the best response or if the topic is still open for a discussion, I will try to respond. I have a habit to reply to all my loyal friends even if I don't have anything to say sometimes ...So, how about you? Will you respond to old discussions too? Do you feel it is not good to respond when you already marked your best response or when you think that no one else will respond to your discussion anymore?

hi gr8life! i'm also behind my notifications, they have now piled up to more than a thousand and most of them are old discussions from my friends here, including this one. ^__^;; i also feel like its a waste to just delete them and not even try to respond to them. so i would browse the notifications and see which of them i could still respond to. i hope my friends wouldn't be annoyed whenever i respond to their old discussions. i always feel relieve of that worry if someone also responded to it after me. at least that proves that responding to it would make the discussion get more responses. ^__~ in my case i don't mind if other myLotters would respond to my old discussions. as long as those discussions have not "expired". like for example, a discussion that talks about what have you done today, what was your lunch/dinner for today. those kinds of discussions.

Hello secretbear, It is not compulsory to respond but to leave it without looking at it, makes me guilty sometimes especially to those friends who loyally responding to mine. Anyway, thanks for your response and I do appreciate it.

Yea I respond to old discussions often just to keep up or catch up with the posters. I don't think there is anything wrong with it as long as the discussions are interesting and I have something to say. I don't mind if the poster marks the best response or not as my goal is to find anything interesting to respond to! *smiles*

Hello wondericequeen, I agree with you! That's what I was doing before. But it just came to my mind one day when I responded to a member's discussion. She told me that some might not like the idea of us digging their old discussions. So, that's the reason I started this topic. I want to know my friends' opinion on this matter. If all of you don't bother about me digging the old discussions, I will continue doing it *laughs*

No it doesn't really matter how old a discussion is or how long since there has been a response to it, if I find the topic interesting and feel I can add something to it then I will certainly respond. Sometimes we simply miss good discussions as there are so many of them being started all the time so some of the good topics get buried a long way down. By responding, we are bringing it back to the top where it might attract a few more responses from other people. It is like this discussion of yours which I see is already 4 months old but it interests me enough to make a response. I just "found" and thought I would add my few comments too and maybe other members will see it now and also add their thoughts to it as well. Just because a topic is old it does not mean it is no good - a bit like people actally when you think about it. lol Good luck and hope you are able to make a response to all those "old" discussions that you want to.

Hello oldboy46, Aha...please don't compare the old discussions with people I consider myself as a senior here and quite 'old' too. As I can't spend too much time here, I have many old discussions started by friends and I do wish that I can respond to all. It takes time for me to respond though... I am happy that most people here don't really bother about the discussions whether they are new or old ones. You have the point here and I am glad that you found mine. Thanks for your response.

Hi gr8life, I am like you..When I am behind, I will not care if the Br was given already, I don't feel really that it is my obligation but it's just part of my routine to be part of my friends' post and I love doing it! But, there are times where I have entirely no idea about the topic, sometimes I will skip from it!

Hello checapricorn, That's the reason I seldom start a discussion. I want it to be a light discussion where it opens for discussion any time *smiles* I do have this habit, whenever I see a friend who always respond to me, I feel guilty for not responding to her discussion though I don't have anything to say. And, you know what happen next? I start to type a response which is sometimes out of topic *laughs*

I was searching for discussions on Home and Away and most of the discussions began months ago and many of them already had best responses. I still replied to the discussions that I was interested in. I often look at discussions that were started one or even two years ago. I did make a mistake replying to the same discussion twice. I said sorry to the My Lot member that began that discussion. He saw the funny side and commented that at least I didn't change my mind about the subject I most hated when I was at school. If I see the profile and realize that the member is no longer active on My Lot I do sometimes still respond to their discussion. After all there are lots of other members on my Lot that may continue the discussion and get something out of that. I really enjoy discussing topics on My Lot, old or new.

Hello maximax8, That's what I am doing here. I normally respond through my e-mail and those are my friends' old discussions. If the poster is not in my friend list, I will check when did he/she post the discussion. If it is still open for discussion, I will respond.

that is not part of the preference i set myself in making discussions or responding into it. as i have to do is, as long as it suits my interest, in my preference and if there's something that i can contribute or something to say then i do make my own despite it's being years old and if BR was deployed already.

Hello sirrob, Thanks for your response. I don't have enough time to spend here and I have a lot of discussions to respond to. I always backdated when responding to others due to this reason. Whenever I have time, I try to respond as many as I could though sometimes it takes me month to finish all.

I am very far behind also on my friends discussions from Mylot. I have some that are four months old and I am trying very hard to work on those daily but they keep piling up. I like to have alot od discussions to respond to though. I will respond to any and all of them. I don't mind if they already have a best response because I may have some significant input for the discussion also.

Hello stephcjh, I think it's slowing down now and I don't know why. I cleared up old discussions and now I have zero new notifications for the past two hours. I should be glad but I feel bored right now *sighs* As for old discussions, as long as the poster doesn't say anything, I will definitely love to respond.

Right now... i am trying to catch up with this weeks discussions that i was not able to respond to... i was quite busy... so now that i have the time... i will try to respond to as many as i can... When a particular friend starts like 10 discussions a day... i don't really respond to all... i just choose like three... then delete those that i can't relate to... but for loyal friends... i make it a point to respond because based from experience... friends like you do not really start a lot here... so it is so easy to write something...

Hello aseretdd, I will do the same...sometimes I receive too many notifications from a member and the one that I don't really relate, I will just skip. But if it is too many to respond, I will just keep the discussion first and will respond later after I finished with all other members' discussions which normally post like less than 5 a day *smiles*

If you have an opinion about something, why not? No matter how old the discussion is. Sometimes you have discussions started by people, and when you decide to respond to it that person is no longer active in this community. I really think it matters more what you get out of it. If you find interest in the subject and have something to say ... say it. You never know who will read what you wrote.

Hello jalucia, I always forget to see how old the discussion is until I finished responding to it. For me, as long as the topic interests me, I will respond. But recently, I tried to clear up my Inbox which consisted of so many old discussions from my friends. It happened that one of them told me, some might not like the idea of someone digging out their old discussions and it was the reason why I started this discussion. Thanks for your opinion.

I don't really put much thought as to how old the discussion is, as long as I like the topic.

Hello joyadalia, I always late in responding to my friends' discussions and that's the reason why I started this topic. I remember responded to a friend's discussion and told her that I was digging her old discussions and she told me that some might not like the idea. I hope none of my friends really care if I do that. Thanks for your response.

Hello iyah10, Sometimes, you will feel like that. I get bored too sometimes and that's the time when I will look for others discussions beside my friends' discussions. Some like to post just too many discussions a day and it takes the whole page of my e-mail which I don't really prefer. I won't delete unless it is really unrelated or I really really don't have anything to say about the topic. But whenever I look for others than my friends' discussions, I seldom check when they started the discussion. As long as it interests me to reply, I will reply. Oh, by the way.... thanks for keeping my discussion *smiles*

Hello swennerholm, I understand you. Sometimes, I also feel bored with all the discussions as they look similar. Some tend to post too many discussions a day and I just can't tolerate sometimes. That will be the time when I look for discussions started by others than on my friend list. When I do, I seldom take note of how old is the discussion, as long as the topic looks attractive to me.
