Obama’s Muslim Connection Won’t Go Away!

Obama in Muslim Dress - Not a Muslim?

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama’s ties to Islam is a story line that is not going away, according to a recent analysis by the Project for Excellence in Journalism. Obama has denied he is a Muslim or ever was a practicing Muslim. The basis of the “rumor” germinates with Obama’s father, who was a Muslim, though Obama claims he was non-practicing. Adding to the mix is Obama’s full name, Barack Hussein Obama, which is an Arabic name. Obama’s biological father disappeared from his son’s life soon after he was born and returned to his native Kenya. Obama’s Kansas-born mother and her second husband, an Indonesian who was also a Muslim, moved from Hawaii to Jakarta, Indonesia’s capital, in 1967. Obama lived there from ages 6 to 10. Press accounts revealed that in fact, Obama first attended a Catholic school for almost three years. However, his mother registered him in the school as a Muslim Some of these details have been confirmed by Obama himself. In his autobiography, "Dreams From My Father," Obama mentions studying the Koran and describes the public school as "a Muslim school." Earlier this year, Obama spokesman Robert Gibbs claimed: "Senator Obama has never been a Muslim, was not raised a Muslim, and is a committed Christian." But the facts suggest that statement is not exactly true. Despite heated denials — perhaps fueled by his attendance at Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakan’s Million Man March — doubts linger about Obama’s religious status. But any perceived link between Obama and Islam could be detrimental to his campaign, polls show. And a poll by the Pew Research Center disclosed that 35 percent of Americans have an unfavorable view of Muslims. What do you think? Will his Muslim connections have a serious impact on his quest for Presidency of the USA (and the world).

Yes, I do think it will, along with a lot of other things that may be true, or partially true. I was sent an e mail which says he removed the American Flag that was painted on his aircraft. Is this true, I did not check, but it would make me think twice before supporting him. His twenty year attendance under that anti-American "Christian" preacher gives me pause as well.

Kennyrose what a shame you did not post your excellent comment as a response. As a comment I can not give it a best response although it certainly does merit one.

I don't care how much they deny it... yes he was raised Muslim! However with the statistics as they are you can see that it is in his best interest to deny..deny...deny! I really don't care if he was or wasn't. I realize he considers himself a Christian however I don't think he's a very good one. However religion will have no baring on my vote... it's his politics and his proposals that make me not want to vote for him. He's simply not cut out to run our country, however he is an amazing writer. He would do best to work in fiction.

Please... McCain is not Bush... he's gone up against Bush in the past. This is just the democrats angle to get the votes, scare the American's into thinking all Republicans are the same, he would have used this no matter what Republican he was up against. All I've heard Obama say over and over is more of the same, I guess when he says it enough times some people actually can't help but believe it.

His religion would not bother me so much if it was not that many Muslims are the terrorists that hate the USA. I agree that Obama certainly does have a talent for fiction.

I don't see why it should matter. If McCain came out as Pastafarianism would it really matter? Idea that Islam is somehow the anti-American astonishes me. Didn't a fair sized chunk of Americans move to the USA for freedom of religion? Finally Religion and Way of Life are different things. Really they are. Most Muslims hold the same values, aspirations and general life goals as Christian, Jews, Buddhists and Pastafarianism (but without the piracy) . I guess for being anti-American in this here post I can expect my little seven to drop right down.

The following quote is from the comment to the above response and I think it can show why it matters. " I realize some American's are saying a candidates religion don't matter when it comes to voting for the president,in this case we are talking about a religion but away of life and the Muslins way of life is not the true American's way of life, different as night and day." BTW As I lived for years a Muslim land I can attest to the fact that the Islamic/Muslim way of life is VERY different from the American way.

Odd, I've meet plenty of Muslims that have integrated fine with their host country while retaining their religious identity. Some people tack on various oddities of culture to religion but they are part of the sub-groups culture not the groups overall religion. And Islam (like Christianity) covers a hell of a lot of sub groups.

I don't think so. First of all a lot of T.V. programs are telling people that Barak Obama is not a muslim.

Unfortunately some people are deaf and blind they only want be told what is favorable to their choice for presidency. They are not interested in facts.
